Hi.
This is just a question about playing radio channels on Google Nest Audio speakers.
I tend to use my speakers to play music either on Spotify or just listen to the radio. Will often say to speakers 'OK Google play Classic FM' and they will correctly start correctly playing the Classic FM radio station. Up until about a week ago they would play Classic FM from Global Player. Recently though they now play Classic FM from Tunein. Obviously not important, e.g. same radio station, but just wondering what had changed, e.g. it has used Global Player continuously for the past year and never from Tuneion
Just curious to know if there had been any change.

I've spotted this too - it's a worse experience due to more adverts and lack of 'currently playing' song names too. I figured I can ask 'hey Google play classic FM with global player' instead, and using the routines feature in Google assistant I can probably tell it to do this every time going forward. I don't think there's an option in the UK to set a default radio provider, as you can with video and music services through Google.

Hi chrisghull.
I agree that I also prefer to use the global player feed. As you have done I now also use a routine to call classic fm using global player. Never bothered with the routines before but now have a simple routine just called 'classic' that calls classic fm with global player.
Always have to look for workarounds these days.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting the Community.
Can you tell us exactly when did you notice thesse changes? Also, do you have any Premium account from TuneIn Radio? Does it also happen when you try to listen on other radio stations from TuneIn?

Hi Princesss
As mentioned in my first email this started happening about a couple of weeks ago. I do not have any accounts with Tunein or Global player for that matter. Also being in the UK I do not have the facility of setting a default radio streamer as I believe can be done in the US. As an experiment I today requested the speakers to play Heart radio and this was streamed from Global Player. I stopped that and then requested Classic FM and it started streaming from Tunein again. All very odd.
Not the end of the world since I've now started using a routine to call Classic FM from Global player. That always works.

Hi Kadven,
Thanks for trying. Could you try to delete and re-create a routine and let's check if this would make any changes?

Hi Princesss.
This makes no difference, but as far as I can see it was never going to work since the problem is not with the routines. Let me explain from the beginning.
Up until a couple of weeks I used to play Classic FM by saying to the speaker 'OK google play Classic FM'. This would then play Classic FM using the Global Player feed. Then about 2 weeks ago saying to the speakers 'OK google play Classic FM' started playing Classic FM but using the Tunein feed.
Now the workaround to this to ensure that the Global Player feed is used instead of the Tunein feed is to create a simple routine called Classic that simply says 'OK google play Classic FM from Global Player'. This routine always works and plays Classic FM using the Global Player feed.
The Global Player feed seems a little preferable to the Tunein feed for reasons as stated by the others.
Consequently back to the very original question, why is the default feed for Classic FM now using Tunein rather than Global Player unless the Global Player is specifically specified OR a routine is used that a specifies that actual player.
Additionally since I am based in the UK it is not possible to specify a specific radio provider feed as I believe is possible in the US.
Hopefully this clarifies the question.
Best regards.

Hi Kadven,
Thanks for clarifying. Let's go ahead and perform a complete reset on your Google Nest Audio and see if this would make any changes on its behavior.
Keep me posted.

Hi Princesss.
Carried out a complete factory reset of both speakers. Then rejoined them together as a stereo pair.
Then gave the voice command 'Ok google play classic FM' . You will not be surprised to hear that they still connected to the Classic FM radio station via Tunein.
I think the whole crux of this must be down to some change that has occurred in Google, Tunein or Global Player in the preferred radio streaming services used as a default if a specified radio streaming service is not stated. Not being too cynical about this but since Tunein uses more advertising that Global Player, I just wonder if some sort of arrangement has recently been agreed upon.
No great problem since I can use a simple routine that I have created to issue the full command of 'Play Classic FM from Global Player'. This then plays Classic FM via Global Player and not Tunein.

Hi Kadven,
Thanks for trying the steps.
One last step that we can try is to command your phone using Google Assistant to play classic FM and see if you will also get the same results. Let us know if there are any changes.

Hi Princesss
Tried using my Google assistant on my android and once again it activated Classic FM on the speakers using Tunein.
Then thought I would see what happened if I didn't try to use the speakers but just the phone on its own, and received the reply that if I wanted to play Classic FM I would first have to install Tunein. So thought instead of installing Tunein on the the phone I would install the Global Player app on the phone instead (no account of course). Then asked the phone to play Classic FM and it once again came back asking me to install Tunein.
In other words every google device now seems determined to refuse to use Global Player unless specifically requested. Seems Google and Tunein are well and truly bonded. Wonder if it was a happy wedding ceremony.
Seems that we will just have to put up with this new bonding.
Best regards.

Hi Kadven,
Thanks for trying the steps. It looks like all Google Assistant works that way now as phone and other devices exhibits the same thing. In line with this, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback regarding this changes that you noticed and for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.
Best,
Princess
