Radio App on Google Home will not play

Hi all - My Google Home will no longer stream ABC Sydney Radio via the radio app! I have turned both speaker & Modem off and on.

 

 Any advice?

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I understand how challenging it can be when you're having issues playing your favorite radio station from a Radio app using your Google Home/Nest devices. A few questions: when did the issue start? Do you have the same issue when playing the stations from a different radio provider like TuneIn? Is it playing on from the https://bit.ly/3iHwgpr website and native app? Also, could you share some of the troubleshooting steps you've tried?

It would also be helpful for the team's investigation if you could send feedback using the keywords, "Unable to play ABC Radio Melbourne and Radio National from Radio app." For more instructions on how to send feedback via your Google Home, check this out.

I have the same problem with radio not working via Radio App. Also can't cast from radio app or ABC listen app. Problem started with last update of Google Home. Can get radio playing if you ask to play using iheart radio.

Yes, I’m also having this issue. Able to use RadioApp on my iPad to connect, so assume it’s not a WiFi issue.

Yep, having the same problem here in SEQld. Asking google to play any ABC station gets acknowledged as playing from radio app … then silence. Also ABC listen app wont cast to a google device. Any clues ?

Thanks for the reply, Muddi ! I appreciate your help. Problem started about a week ago. From the start, any radio I played through google devices came from the 'radioapp' app. I installed the 'radioapp' app on my android device yesterday and found it would play ABC stations OK but not cast them to my google speaker. Same with the ABC listen app - it looked to work ok but no sound came through the google speaker except the ping when I changed the volume. Non-ABC stations casted fine ! Anyway, my work-around (thanks to CW10 above) has been to specify to google to "Play radio ABC xxx from iHeart Radio" either by voice or in a routine and things work just as they should. I think I can go onto my google home setup and specify iHeart as the default player, instead of radioapp that seemed to be the original out-of-the-box service. Any advice on just how to do that would be much appreciated. Thanks very much !

Had the same problem in Canberra with the radio app coming on screen but no broadcast of ABC stations,.  So I asked it to play a local commercial station and it worked, so then I asked for ABC 666 and it played as well.  The big test was to then ask for ABC classic FM Sydney.  Hurrah!  it worked.  No idea how or why but it is now working.  Perhaps Google is philosophically opposed to ABC public radio... Who knows!

We are unable to play ABC Radio Adelaide 891 on our Google nest or speakers also can’t play ABC News Radio on them.

We are able to get the BBC and when we sat Good-morning all the stations including ABC give us the news bit still cannot get the ABC Adelaide 891. How can I fix this as it is driving us crazy as we do not have good reception on a normal radio.

Hi Muddi,

It seems the problem with ABC radio stations has raised up again. After the issue 3 weeks ago it started working most of the time. Now it will not work via Radio App. Tried using iHeart radio which was a work around 3 weeks ago but that no longer works. I have sent feedback on the issue as you requested last time. You indicated you would provide feedback on the issue, but unless I am mistaken, no feedback has been given as yet.

Fortunately I have been able to cast ABC Radio Melbourne from my ABC Listen app.

Same here CW10 … it seems to have stopped again on both the radioApp and iheart platforms. It worked for me today through tuneIn. “Ok google, play radio ABC Brisbane on tuneIn”

I do not see this as a solution, seems more an attempt to hit your solution kpi's.

Read all the comments and you will see it is not resolved and is still a problem.

Very frustrating as emergency alerts are reported on our ABC regional station which we can no longer access.

I don't see a solution here.  Merely a restatement of the problem and request for additional feedback.   So - what's happening with this please.  I have the same issue. Home says " Playing abc radio on radio app.", It comes up on the hub screen  but shows a play button which cannot be activated. The radio does not play.

Agree that issue is not solved. Asking to play ABC 720 on tunein worked but that is a work around. Fix the problem please. Do not stick your head in the sand and hope it will go away.

Same problem here in the Snowy Mountains NSW trying to access our local abc radio station on google smartspeaker. I have tried all work arounds as suggested above with no success. I have tried a paid radio subscription service as well and this did not work either. Only seems to bs a problem with ABC stations. We bought the smart speaker specifically so my elderly and blind Mother could turn on and clearly hear her favourite station via voice command and using internet. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Likewise here outside sydney can’t get ABC Radio Sydney casting to google speaker on radio app, iHeart or tuneIn, despite testing they all work on the respective apps on my phone. The only ABC station I can get to cast is ABC Radios National.

I am not sure if this can help but my speakers all started working again late yesterday afternoon. As others have since complained it is still not working I guess nothing central has fixed it. The only thing I changed on my network was to completely reboot all my fixed wireless NTU and local routers and wifi extenders. Maybe got updated routing info or something???

Anyway worth a try if you haven’t done it already.  Very happy to have our ABC stations available again on google speakers!

All came good here too. We did nothing at our end. Even when we said to play ABC via Tunein it played through RadioApp.  Hopefully this time it will stay fixed.
