Radio option not on Google home app

Oli1983uk

I have been trying to add and radio player app to my Google devices, I have the Google hub, Google mini gen 1 and 2 and also the Google home speaker. Every time I search about it it says open the Google home app, then open settings and then click on radio. Well I don't have this option in my Google home app, so how can I choose another radio app to use on my speakers rather then tune in?

Linking radio services in the Google Home app is only available in the US and Canada.

I'm in the US and having the same issue. Was listening to SiriusXM yesterday and today the speaker says it can't find SIrius and the Radio option is no longer showing up in Google Home

Well, this is not true as we have been using the service since December 2021 in Sydney, Australia. But, just over the last week, it stopped working. Not sure why, but for 6 months it was working fine. This what I would like to know.

Please help. Someone?

TuneIn is preinstalled in Google home as radio service.

Ok, my friend has radio player installed on his one so how can I add that? As a radio station I listen to is being removed from tunein

It would seem my Google mini is now using radio player rather than tune in

Hi there,

I’ve been trying to get it fixed up however no one seems to have a clue.  The RadioApp people take no responsibility even though it ONLY cuts out when on any radio station using RadioApp on my google mini.

The only thing they have said is RadioApp doesn’t support multi room functionally.  That’s all well and good but I only use one google device of a morning.

Anyway it continues to frustrate the hell out of me as google home products in Australia only use RadioApp as the default radio station app.  And we are unable to change the default to any other app.

I’ve tried everything, deleting all google stuff and reinstalling.  Had my provider check the Wi-Fi connection.  It comes down to something not gelling between the default app and google home/mini/nest

Regards
Lisa

No need for further assistance.  It was a router issue with the internet provider (three different addresses were working against each other making it cut out).  So the issue is now resolved.

Hey all,

Sorry for the late reply. It seems most of the users on this thread have resolved the issue. With that being the case, I am going to lock the thread at this time to keep content fresh. If you are still having trouble from here, please feel free to create a new post.

Best regards,

Jake

Google is now using RadioApp in Australia, and it’s absolute crap as mine keeps cutting out.  10 times an hour.  I’ve reset all the google stuff, had my wifi and service checked, yet it is only this default radio app that cuts out.   Everything else works fine on my google speakers.

is there any way I can change the default radio playing app in Australia?  This is so frustrating

I used to be able to listen to Fylde Coast Road on my hub and minis through Tune-in. Tune-in now doesn't support them. I have the radio app on my Pixel phone but I don't know how to stream that to my Hub. Any suggestions anyone.

How did you resolve this issue? For the past year and yesterday, I was listening to Planet Rock radio but today google says that I have to link the account following the instructions google and you have detailed. When I go into the google home app, there is no radio option, therefore unable to link again.

I'm having exactly the same issue! Cant find a resolution so far!

Same issue here. Was working until yesterday, and now I'm told I have to link my account in the Google Home App, but there is no "radio" listed as an option under Media...

yes very annoying! I emailed Google a while ago but haven't got a response yet, if I do I'll let you know

and in the meantime Planet Radio states this
https://support.planetradio.co.uk/hc/en-gb/articles/360018429058-Linking-your-account-with-Google-

So we're kinda stuck 😞

Reply states - The radio option is not available in the Google Home app as linking radio services is only available in the US and Canada. You can try saying using the frequency name of Planet Rock Radio in your voice command (e.g Okay Google, listen to 105.2 FM). If the issue persists, you may reach out to Planet Rock Radio to check if there are any recent changes on their end. If it's asking you to link your account, it's possible that their service requires a premium subscription.   Not very helpful! Might have to buy an Alexa!!

Hi

Not ideal but at least there's an answer

Just hope it gets sorted! 🤞

Thanks for posting the link 👍

This is just rubbish from the people who own Planet Rock. (who also own Kiss FM and Heart). First, in a money grabbing move they try and sell you "premium" channels "without DJs and adverts", Well guess what PR? I have PLAYLISTS that do that. The same GENIUS people that decided to "play albums in full" (yeah, like I can, BY MYSELF). Now they are intent on reducing their listenership further by pulling a full D*CK move by stopping our smart speakers from playing their predicatble playlist-dominated content with some speil about "so we can track what devices you listen to us on...". this is all about revenue, and nothing about  being flexible about how WE listen. You know what I did? "Google play hard rock" and off it went, no DJs. "Play rock music" works too.

My pal has an echo dot and that is working fine, we are going to swap as she doesn’t use it.

Same issue here. Planet rock played perfectly yesterday, now - instructions to link an account I don't have in an app that doesn't have the facility.

Between them, Planet Rock and Google have lost a customer.

I also tried, "Play classic rock radio" and it played Absolute Classic Rock.... It it's really short-sighted by PR management who see it as "content" and "product".Cause rock 'n' roll ain't no riddle man
To me it makes good, good sense. PR don't.

Still no fix yet but yesterday I did email Planet Rock and received the following reply:-

We are currently in the process of fixing this problem.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

In the meantime you can say "Hey google, stream [radio name] from TuneIn"

...trued that but just get the same message about linking from the app 🤨

Today has just become a good Friday, Planet Rock is once again working on my Google Nest speaker 😁

What version are you on? Just tried and it didn't work for me, even after a reboot.
I'm on

Fuchsia: 6.20211109.1.3166240
Software: 45.1.15.450549110

I've just tried it on my old school google Home and it worked and also on my Google Display!

I can only assume they saw the error of their ways...

from their own website :

"

Q: Why can I no longer play Planet Rock on my Sonos / other connected speaker?

A: It is likely that you have previously been using a third-party app to stream our station. We have now changed the way that we distribute our online streaming, and encourage you to now listen to us directly, via our own Planet Radio Music service on Sonos or via our own app or website. You can also download the RadioPlayer app where you can listen to us plus many other stations. We really value you as a listener, and hope that this change doesn’t cause too much inconvenience."

I can confirm that it now also works with me. not sure why it took longer than others when I've had no update on my Nest Hub...
