RadioApp not loading on Google Nest Hub Max

SteveCairns
Community Member

RadioApp will not load on my Nest Hub Max. Other nest devices in the same household are fine.
Has been working fine, but stopped within the last week or so. Responds to my voice command "Play 3AW' but then the loading process freezes. Other radio services seem fine (iHeartradio) works on the Hub max, but RadioApp does not.

Contacted Google support via email ... the suggested the usual reboot and update solutions ... no change. Opened a chat to Google support, nothing additional to help, but they did suggest to open a Feedback on the issue through the Google home app. When enough people report the same issue, it gets the attention of the next level support people, who should be able to resolve the issue.

** UPDATE **
This is a Google issue ... probably a bug in a recent firmware upgrade that you have no control over.
If you are on firmware level 26.20250116.103.2201 you will probably have the problem.
It is a worldwide issue for Nest Hub devices. Google are aware and some users in the UK have recently reported their problem has been fixed. Hopefully just a matter of time before they roll the fix out to us in Australia ... keep checking.

** UPDATE 2 **
Working here in Melbourne on Friday 2nd May at 9:45am. Was not working at 6:45am.
Seems ok for 3AW , 2GB , 6PR , ABC , GoldFM , Smooth FM , Nova , KIIS ...
...  but not for MMM , MMM Classic Rock , FOX FM , 3MP .  That is all that I quickly tried.
Interesting is that my firmware level has not changed for my Nest Hub Max. This suggests that there might have been as issue in RadioApp that they are progressively fixing up.

We will probably never know the root cause of the problem, but let's hope they get ALL the stations back ASAP.

Hi Steve,

Same issue. It started on my Mum's Hub Max on Friday and is now occurring on my Hub Max today. I've also done a soft/hard reset which has had no impact.

What is working, is that on the 2nd Generation (non Max) devices, RadioApp is still working. On those devices you can then select the Max and play on both at the same time. Not really a solution, but at least you get radio that you want.

Oddly, the Media screen will still look like it's working properly with the Radio station logo displayed, but sadly no Audio. I've sent a query to RadioApp directly, just in case they made a change that no one is aware of.

Hi Jason. Interesting thought. Would be very interested on any reply you get from RadioApp.
Similar to your workaround, if I start RadioApp on my iPhone, and then select the audio to go to the Nest Hub Max, that also works, and after some (unknown) amount of time I can shutdown RadioApp on the iPhone, and the stream continues on the Nest Hub Max ... weird , hoping someone works it out for a more satisfactory solution.

Yes - turns out RadioApp are aware and are looking into it.

Will keep this thread updated if I hear anything.

I contacted Support, they have told me that their tech team are working on the issue . Unsure of an up date time frame.

A small extract from my conversation.

Senior Technical Support: For the meantime we do not have a specific time frame. However, we have information that there is an update rolling out with the Nest displays that would fix this issue.

Hello Joe.

Thanks for sharing this. Just to clarify, is that Google support or RadioApp support ?

I contacted Radio Sation 2 GB in Sydney by email and the production manager said they were also aware of the problems and 'they ?' were working on having it fixed asap.

Hi JasonC,

Ive done the same thing you have and have also asked both google and RadioApp if they have done any updates recently RadioApp said they haven’t but I couldn’t get a straight answer from google which usually means they have and realise there’s a problem and are working to fix the problem with another security update but they won’t tell us about it.

Radio app was last updated on 2 April 2025.

Thats about when minr stopped playing my prefered radio station after over a year of no problems

Also looks like it's all Radio apps, TuneIn radio, ESPN and BBC by the other posts from other users.

Hopefully this means that Google will be able to look into it.

Got the same problem all other devices in the house are working fine have tried everything I couldn’t even get a straight answer from them if they had done an update which might have caused the problem. Seems unusual that we are all experiencing the same issue.

I have the same issue on my Google Home Hub where RadioApp will not load, however it is working on my Google mini, weird.

I have had the same issue with Radio App and 3AW on Google Next Hub. Just goes to a black screen and Radio App logo. Been like that for last 48 hours.

Oddly, if I ask “play ABC Melbourne” it streams on the device.

I just assumed it was an issue with the 3AW stream on Radio App. Played 3AW stream via iRadioHeart with no issues (through web browser on Google Nest Hub)

Hello Willow1.

Don't think it is 3AW ... my Google nest mini streams 3AW just fine with the usual voice command.
Also,  if I start RadioApp on my iPhone, and then select the audio to go to the Nest Hub Max, that also works, and after some (unknown) amount of time I can shutdown RadioApp on the iPhone, and the stream continues on the Nest Hub Max ... weird

I’m experiencing the same - can’t ’play 3AW’ on my nest hub, plays OK on my Google Nest Mini’s, but can stream from RadioApp - I also close RadioApp on my IPhone after a couple of minutes & it keeps playing on the Hub

I did that for a few days and that has stopped I cast from my phone then turn it off 30 mins later but now I lose it from my hub.

Exactly the same issue as I’m experiencing.   Can’t get 3AW or RRR, but ABC comes through loud and clear.  Seems like the problem is  widespread. So annoying.

Mine does the same thing - seems to play a couple of ‘AM’ channels, but won’t load FM…

Same goes ABC in Sydney also works but no other stations - RadioApp.

Same same. Google says 'playing smooth FM, then radioapp logo comes up on the screen but then no radio plays.

I have the same with FiveAA.  Say "Hey Google play FiveAA" and the radioapp log comes up, and it looks like it is going to play the radio statio, but nothing plays.  It worked perfectly fine us to a week or so ago.  Even built it into my "Good Morning" automation.  But now frustratingly it does not work anymore.

Basically every 2nd post is radio related in this forum, its definitely not just Australia, and not just your individual device. The Radio app is the default one for me and it definitely seems to hang on the start screen, sometimes it flashes and then goes back.. sometimes it gives an error message 'something went wrong'.

People are having issues with all the apps, I was able to get 'Smooth Relax' (dont judge!) working 'mostly' if I ask for it via 'TuneIn' but not working in the Radio App, but no good with 'TripleM' or a bunch of other stations, they dont seem to exist in the other app, some also used I Heart Radio, but that had none of my stations at all.

I have the same issue. Just got back from holidays and my Nest Hub Max no longer plays radio on the Radio App - however it still works on other devices around the house. Still in the process of going through all the troubleshooting but by the sounds of it, it's a Hub Max/Radio App issue and won't do much good. I really miss my radio and hope it's fixed soon.

On one of my screen speakers the radioapp has suddenly stopped working. On all the other speakers it works fine.

It recognizes the command  to play the radio station and opens and then goes to saying radioapp on the screen but goes no further. If I open the speaker in the home app it says it's playing radioapp but there's no sound. It's not muted and the volume is up. Tried removing and setting up again also restarting both it and the rouer doesn't help. Noting else has been installed. This is using the in built radioapp. It's like  something has gone wrong with the in built radio app but I can't see any way to configure or repair it. Other than that everything else functions Ok. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try? Suggestions on line are saying to open radio in setting. But there is no radio button in settings.

Same issue I tried a full reeboot - reloaded home on a new device and smae issue happens google or radio app need to fix this asap imo

I normally listen to 3Aw in Melbourne via the Radio app and it was working fine until yesterday when it suddenly stopped responding.  I also tried Gold 104.3 FM which plays fine via iHeart.

I have restarted Google Nest a few times and checked my access through Google home to no avail.

I see the same issue occurred in mid*2024 and it was fixed but nothing happening at the moment.  Anyone else encountered the same problem.

Thanks

Yes I have exactly this issue.. it was intermittent for maybe a year, but now fullstop no radio channels are working.

Was thinking I might replace the unit, but its possible its not a hardware fault.. and are they being replaced cause shops dont seem to be stocking them.

Thanks for your reply.  Reading the other posts it looks like it is a google issue.

Hi all,

Thanks for posting in the community forum. I'm sorry to hear that the Radio app isn't working as expected on your Google Hub Max. I appreciate you sharing the steps you've already taken, it's very helpful. Don't worry, help is here.

The team is aware and is working to resolve this as soon as possible. We encourage you to submit feedback directly from your device, if you haven’t already. Just say, “Hey Google, send feedback” and provide as much detail as possible when prompted.

Please feel free to reply to this post with any relevant information.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Hi Johnathan.

Thanks for the confirmation that this is being looked at. Looking forward to the issue being fixed.

Is there any sort of problem or ticket number that we can follow to see the progress and know when it is fixed ?

Steve.

Thanks Jonathan, appreciate the insight.

I've done a "Hey Google, send feedback" and submitted the screenshot with info.  Does the device capture any additional data in the background to help provide more info on the issue?  Sending a screenshot of the TuneIn Radio app not doing anything doesn't seem like it's adding a ton of feedback at face value.

Thanks

Exactly the same scenario in our household. Hub Max won't play radio app but two older hubs will. Followed all those instructions to no avail. Also have feedback on the hub.

We have just returned from being away for a few days and have the same issue ie we are unable to listen to the radio on our Nest Hub Max. We are able to listen to radio stations on the Nest Hub.

I have done a factory reset, removed the device from the Google Home App and set it up again. The issue still remains.

Radio app on my two google nest devices are not working it just suddenly stopped. I ask to play my normal station it replies, playing and looks like it is going to then just stops without connecting, yet when I look at device on home app it says it is playing. Have reset, turned off wifi turned on still not working, uninstalled, reinstalled, tried everything possible. Yet the hub Max in the kitchen works perfectly fine.  Any advice please?

I have the same problem. I’ve tried everything it still isn’t working.

I have the same issue with global player but the bbc stations still work. By the number of posts on this it must be a Google issue

I have been unable to play TuneIn since Next Hub Max firmware update 26.20250116.103.2201 that apparently came out 4/13. Have also tried everything - it must be this firmware.

TuneIn will load, play two commericials, but then stall and timeout back to the Hub homescreen.
