RadioApp not loading on Google Nest Hub Max

SteveCairns
Community Member

RadioApp will not load on my Nest Hub Max. Other nest devices in the same household are fine.
Has been working fine, but stopped within the last week or so. Responds to my voice command "Play 3AW' but then the loading process freezes. Other radio services seem fine (iHeartradio) works on the Hub max, but RadioApp does not.

Contacted Google support via email ... the suggested the usual reboot and update solutions ... no change. Opened a chat to Google support, nothing additional to help, but they did suggest to open a Feedback on the issue through the Google home app. When enough people report the same issue, it gets the attention of the next level support people, who should be able to resolve the issue.

** UPDATE **
This is a Google issue ... probably a bug in a recent firmware upgrade that you have no control over.
If you are on firmware level 26.20250116.103.2201 you will probably have the problem.
It is a worldwide issue for Nest Hub devices. Google are aware and some users in the UK have recently reported their problem has been fixed. Hopefully just a matter of time before they roll the fix out to us in Australia ... keep checking.

** UPDATE 2 **
Working here in Melbourne on Friday 2nd May at 9:45am. Was not working at 6:45am.
Seems ok for 3AW , 2GB , 6PR , ABC , GoldFM , Smooth FM , Nova , KIIS ...
...  but not for MMM , MMM Classic Rock , FOX FM , 3MP .  That is all that I quickly tried.
Interesting is that my firmware level has not changed for my Nest Hub Max. This suggests that there might have been as issue in RadioApp that they are progressively fixing up.

We will probably never know the root cause of the problem, but let's hope they get ALL the stations back ASAP.

I have factory rest and tested several times a day.  Strangely one of my 3 Google Home Nest devices continued for about a day longer than the other 2.   Another anomaly and probably only in Sydney Australia when I ask hey Google Play ABC Radio then Radio App responds like the others but also connects and plays that station.    For other radio stations RadioApp appears and no audio but if I check the device on my smart phone via Google Home is shows that that device is casting as if there is some signal broadcasting but not coming through.

Hi Tony.

Exactly the same symptoms for me as well.

Thank you Steve. Glad it's not my end that's the problem. I appreciate you putting this up. Patience is now the key, waiting for it to be fixed but now we know, it prevents more time wasted trying to fix it. Cheers,  Ingrid

Thanks Steve I can also confirm same issue with my google nest hub with same firmware update. My work around at the moment is I command one of the google nest audio to play my radio station (5AA). I have more than one and grouped in my home app. In this case I can manually request all 3 to play including the google nest hub (with the firmware issue) I hope this makes sense.

With full respect, and the amount of posts and people that are affected by this, why no official post from Google acknowledging the issue and providing any sort of update or ETA of a fix? All I see is community member updates......

thanks for the update

Thank you so much for this information! I too have submitted tickets and gone through the battery of possible fixes with no success. Glad to know it is not something I am doing wrong. Looking forward to a fix in the future. (by the way, the only radio app I can get to work on command on my Google hub max is TuneIn. this will work on simple command, but not within a routine since this radio source cannot be chosen as an option.)

We have the same problem in Canada also. No longer can play radio stations on Nest Hub.  All I can do is cast the station from my phone to the hub.  Not good. When will it be fixed.

Hello Chris.

Looks like there is a fix, at least for some in the U.K. Still not working in Melbourne AUS. The waiting continues.
Take a look at the update in the post at the top of this thread.

Spot on Steve, we are still waiting. Not sure how we seemed to be the first to report, yet not yet receiving an update. Who knows how these things work!

But that Chris is the workaround. Use your phone and cast to the Hub's, that provides trouble free listening all day. Even leaving the house with the phone and coming back the Hub's keep streaming. This is the weirdest error ever.

I am having an issue with my speaker I ask it to play a specific radio station and it won’t play it started about a week ago

the specific radio station I want it to play is “105.1 knci” which is  a local country radio station and it jut won’t work I have already tried re setting the devices and still not working it also did this wit other radio stations. is their a way to fix this because I mainly use it to listen to to the radio I hate to have to look in to getting some other devices

the problem is with Google. Radio App is the app used by a lot of stations and i contacted them.  They said they are working with Google to fix it. It's a world wide outage and only affects certain models

This has also happened to me. All 3 google home speakers in Sydney. Did factory reset on all and reinstalled google home before setting up each device. ABC radio works but no others. Indications show 2GB casting to device after hey google command but no sound from thus or other stations tried. All volume ok. Can cast from phone radio spp but only one device at a time. Tried everything.

I am having exactly same problem on NSW coast.  Haven't got past RadioApp for last 4-5 days. Can't find any help or answers. Have you had any success?

I have exactly the same problem in Melbourne!

Hi Ingrid

I wrote/emailed to 2GB and asked them and they said yes there was a problem and 'they' are working on it and hopefully will resolve it asap.   It was driving me crazy and starting thinking it was something to do with the NBB.  I guess we just have to be patient.

Mine too. There's obviously an issue and I keep getting Google notifications saying they've fixed the issue, but they haven't. I wish they would!

The issue is with google- it's affected radio app with latest update for certain models. Radioapp said they are working with Google to fix it

I am aware others seem to have had the same issue. Anyone had anything that helps? I ask Google to play a song or play a particular radio station and it says 'sure' and seems to suggest it will play it then it says 'something went wrong' or on the display it says 'an error occured'. I have tried all the tips- rebooting, turning WiFi on and off, factory reset. Reboot solves the issue briefly then shortly after it's back to how it was. I have also tried removing from the home app and reinstalling but now cannot re add one of the nests at all! It just will not find it! I've emailed support and no joy. Someone must've got some solution?! It's infuriating!

I have a couple of Google home devices. When I ask my Google Nest to play say 77 WABC, the voice says WABC radio from I Heart Radio. The station appears but then goes to the I Heart Radio symbol and no music plays. This also happens with Audacy radio stations. This only happens to this one device. The radio stations work fine on all my other Google home devices. I reset the google nest device along with unplugging the router. Any idea what is going on? I have the same precise issue.  Does anyone have a solution?

I contacted Audacy and was emailed this as  a solution:

Thank you for your patience as we investigated this issue further, Google has acknowledged that there is an issue on their end that is impacting some listeners' ability to play i!ludac~ and other radio stations on their Google smart

I have the same problem With my Google nest hub and tunein. Works good with my two Google nest mini…

I have the same issue as do many others.  I posted about this also a week ago, yet Google seem to be doing nothing with regard to fixing the issue.

This issue has been ongoing for the last 2 weeks globally. It's affecting Nest Displays across the world on every radio streaming platform.

Google don't seem to want to fix!

If it is a global issue, seems like there would be more posts complaining about it.  All I know is that it is maddening.

Why those devices to listen to the news sports wherever I am in the house, my father, who I take care of uses it to listen to music and now we can’t get anything to work. These Google devices have been very disappointing and I bought way too many of them

Hi

Since approx. last Thursday, I noted that both my Google Nest Max and Nest Hub 2nd gen no longer stream radio stations via Global Player.

Try saying ' Hey Google, stream LBC". It momentarily looks like it's going to stream but then switches to the Global Player logo for approximately 30 seconds, then closes.

Please can you investigate.

Thanks

I'm having the same issue.

Can't see a way to report it to Global. They'd get twitchy if listeners couldn't play. Ad rev etc

Jim018

I have the same issue with displays. Will not play Global player, or Rayo, will not cast apps like SoundCloud. I've tried a fresh reboot and install, no change.

However ask the mini to play them and it works!

Seems to be just the display hubs.
