RadioApp not loading on Google Nest Hub Max

SteveCairns

RadioApp will not load on my Nest Hub Max. Other nest devices in the same household are fine.
Has been working fine, but stopped within the last week or so. Responds to my voice command "Play 3AW' but then the loading process freezes. Other radio services seem fine (iHeartradio) works on the Hub max, but RadioApp does not.

Contacted Google support via email ... the suggested the usual reboot and update solutions ... no change. Opened a chat to Google support, nothing additional to help, but they did suggest to open a Feedback on the issue through the Google home app. When enough people report the same issue, it gets the attention of the next level support people, who should be able to resolve the issue.

** UPDATE **
This is a Google issue ... probably a bug in a recent firmware upgrade that you have no control over.
If you are on firmware level 26.20250116.103.2201 you will probably have the problem.
It is a worldwide issue for Nest Hub devices. Google are aware and some users in the UK have recently reported their problem has been fixed. Hopefully just a matter of time before they roll the fix out to us in Australia ... keep checking.

** UPDATE 2 **
Working here in Melbourne on Friday 2nd May at 9:45am. Was not working at 6:45am.
Seems ok for 3AW , 2GB , 6PR , ABC , GoldFM , Smooth FM , Nova , KIIS ...
...  but not for MMM , MMM Classic Rock , FOX FM , 3MP .  That is all that I quickly tried.
Interesting is that my firmware level has not changed for my Nest Hub Max. This suggests that there might have been as issue in RadioApp that they are progressively fixing up.

We will probably never know the root cause of the problem, but let's hope they get ALL the stations back ASAP.

Same firmware version for me as well .
In this article ....
https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7365257?hl=en-AU
Google lists this as Preview Program firmware version and then lists the Current production firmware version for the Nest Hub Max as 24.20241009.103.1900601

Would be interesting to roll back the firmware update, but I don't know if that is possible

Interesting -- in my Home settings it looks like I am not even enrolled in the Public Preview. So I guess I can't try "leaving" it in attempt to move to the 1900601 version, unfortunately.

Yes, I am not either enrolled either.
I wonder if Google have pushed this preview firmware level out to us in error ?
I did another factory reset and it resets at the latest firmware level ... 26.20250116.103.2201
There appears to be no way to roll back to an earlier firmware level

I contacted global and received a reply the very next day saying they were working on it then a few hours later telling me the issue was rectified.

And so it is .

Great work Global player team! 🙌

I’ve done a reboot - still not working here in Melbourne 😟 Where are you located and did you need to do anything to get it working?

I.'m in the UK. It seems that this issue still nerds to be fixed in Australia. Hope this happens soon!

Thanks Richard - we are patiently waiting!

I have had an email reply from Radio App- they are working with Google  so hoping that won't take weeks!

That’s really frustrating! I had a similar issue before—turns out unlinking and re-linking the radio service in the Google Home app helped. Maybe give that a shot if you haven’t already.

Unlinking and linking radio in the Google home App is only available in the US and Canada

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9566187?hl=en-AU

I'm in the US, but I couldn't find TuneIn under any of my linked apps, either under Radio, Music, or Video, etc. Only SiriusXM was listed as an option under the radio section. It seems like TuneIn is kinda "baked in" or something?

same problem with TuneIn radio - it stopped for my Google Nest Hub on April 18 and hasn't worked since.  For whatever reason iHeartRadio is still working, but they have different radio stations and isn't the same selection 😞

It was actually April 18 for me as well. Seems like the Nest Hub + TuneIn is such a common pair that Google would have noticed and raised the priority on this issue by now.

Same , wont play 2gb

There is a glitch with global player which Google are aware of.

say hey Google play Smooth radio by TuneIn. Or the station of your choice and it will work. You will be bombarded with ads though

Global Player is now working with Nest Hub devices. Their Engineering Team have fixed the bug.

It’s not sorry . Mine still doesn’t work in Tasmania

tested today and still not working

Me too. But the reply from Radio App at least stops me from looking for the problem

Google home max stopped playing radio app about 3 days ago. Tried various radio stations but error was not playing. Have reset the device and reinstalled but still not working. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you. I now ask it to 'play LBC on tune-in' and it works. Brilliant 👏🏻 Wonder what has happened to Global 🤷🏻‍♂️

For many years I have run g home automations on my nest display where after saying the trigger word one of the actions was to stop the radio or music playing.

Recently this last step no longer works all the time. It appears that if its a "official" source such as youtube music it does but something like bbc radio 4 whether asked for direct or cast to the display does not.

I have opted for Gemini over Assistant. Also my display is a nest version 1.

Perhaps there is a new nest display with a better chip that will be fully functional with the new ai, in the pipeline. I would be happy to upgrade.

About 2 weeks ago our nest hub stopped playing/streaming 99.9 the Hawk and everybother radio stations we ask it tonolay. Located in US and radio station is in Allentown PA. Our other speakers 3 minis and 1 white/slate speaker (original google home)  play/stream the radio stations with no problems. Unplugged hub, removed hub and added again to google home. Still not working! It is frustrating since Hub is in kitchen and used daily. Need help!

Thanks!

A couple of days ago the UK based Global Player (for radio such as LBC or Heart/Smooth) stopped working, used this for many years on my google speakers/display.

When I ask google to "Play LBC UK" the Global Player app attempts to load but then after a minute or so fails and then nothing happens. It drops me back to the stby display - a clock.

Other services such as TuneIn can load LBC, but have ads inserted so not ideal.

I'm seeing many other radio based posts - so asssume there is a general issue here?

I tried this on:

  • Nest Hub (2nd gen)
  • Nest Mini

Same with mine. Does exactly what yours is doing. See lots of posts complaining of the same thing. Having massive issues with Google home at the moment and this is just one of them

Found a solution yet? I have same problem.

Have you found a solution yet? Mine will play Radio one but I want to listen to LBC 🤯
