Recover a deleted chromecast device to home

So, I deleted a chromecast device from my google home app, because it was showing as "unavailable" even when it was fully working with the remote and the device was not showing for casting from the web browser. If I want to add the chromacast device again to the home app, all information points to a factory reset, but by doing that I would effectively have to re-install each and every non-default app and re-type all the passwords to all the accounts in the different apps and streaming services I'm subscribed (which is not a trivial effort).

Does anybody know a work around to avoid that pain?

It seams like a really bad user experience 😞

Hi @rmorteo,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I'm sorry to hear about the situation you're experiencing trying to add your Chromecast device back to the Google Home app. Let me help you with this.

In this case, it's important to ensure that some settings are configured correctly for the setup process of the device. Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Are you getting any error messages while trying to add the device in the Google Home app?

Regarding your question about alternative ways to add the Chromecast device, a factory reset is not the only option. We can force a connection in your Google Home app by rebooting the device. Here are the steps:

  1. Remove the streaming device from the power source.
  2. Leave the device unplugged for one minute.
  3. Plug it back in.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Lusvin.

Thanks your your reply.
The device had WiFi connection already in the same network but I did reboot the device with no luck (the device was not showing as active in the Home app and after the removal it did not came back byitself). After many tries with different wait times and setting updates (like device name) to force connection, I gave up and did a factory reset.
It did fixed the issue (added the device again to the Home app and listed it as active for sharing content to it) but I had to manually install, configure and authenticate on each and every app I had installed :(, overall it took 1 hr.
Additionally, I can recommend other users who are experimenting this and will do this process, to have a bluetooth keyboard to speed up the typing process.
