@Estellegoueth

Is your Nest Hub set to "Do not disturb"?

Estellegoueth
Community Member

No it isn't. I checked the settings on the Google home app and everything is on.

@Estellegoueth

We don't use reminders. But I found this.

A year ago, Google Nest apparently turned on the chiming sound for reminders. Reddit has posts from customers asking how to turn it off. And there is this thread in this forum, with no answer on how to turn it off:

https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/How-do-I-turn-off-the-chiming-sound-I-h...

Is it possible that Google Nest just turned off the feature?

If it did turn off the feature, how do I turn it back on? According to the information you referred me to they have the sound and can't turn it on. So unless that feature was disabled by the people at Google I'm not sure this helped me. Thanks anyway

@Estellegoueth

I was merely speculating. Last year's post reported that 2 chimes had started to accompany reminders and there was no way to turn it off. Since there seems to be no way for customers to turn it on or off, I was simply suggesting that Google Nest might have just disabled it. Maybe others in this forum know more.

Hi folks,

@MplsCustomer, thanks for the help.

@Estellegoueth, thanks for posting. I know how important it is for you to get your reminders on time. Here is some information on how reminders work now with your Nest Hub. Check the details below.

When it's time for the reminder, the speaker or display will play a sound, and Google Assistant will announce that the customer has a reminder.

  • On a speaker, the lights will pulse, then a single white light will stay on for 10 minutes.
  • On a display, the screen will dim.

To hear the reminder, you can use one of these voice commands:

  • "Hey Google, what's up?"
  • "Hey Google, what are my notifications?"
  • "Hey Google, what are my reminders?"

You can check this helpful link too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hi there,

Buzzing in — do you still need our help? Don't hesitate to reach back if you do.

Regards,

Juni

Yes none of this general information has helped. I already know this. You just described what it should do but it doesn't. That doesn't solve the issue. The issue is the sound you mentioned doesn't come on. The reminder appears on the screen but no light or sounds.

Hi there,

Got it. Let’s try this step and observe if this will make a difference. You can do a full reset to put back your Nest Hub to its default settings and set it up again as a new device. Check the step below on how to do it.

On the back of Nest Hub, press and hold both volume buttons together for about 10 seconds. Your Nest Hub will let you know that it's resetting.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Juni

Hey Estellegoueth,

To confirm, did you set up the reminder via voice command or on the Google Calendar app?

Cheers,

Muddi

Both. The ones set on calendar do not chime

Hey Estellegoueth,

Please note that if you created the reminder on a mobile device or calendar, the reminder won't be broadcast on your Nest Hub. Please try creating a reminder via voice command by asking your device to remind you of something within 5 minutes. Let's see if your device will have the same behavior.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hey Estellegoueth,

How was your device? Have you tried the suggested steps above?

I'll wait for your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

It tells me i have a notification. Once i ask what's the notification, it reads every notification i have for the whole day or week.

Hi Estellegoueth,

Thanks for trying the steps. When one reminder is set to your Google Nest Hub, does it chime or notify you? What about when multiple reminders are set?

Best,

Princess

Yes it does. It says I have a reminder for Estelle. When i ask what's the reminder, it reads me all the reminders in my calendar, past and present. Even though I'm asking about the reminder that literally just chimed.

Hi Estellegoueth,

Thanks for the additional info. Let's try to create a reminder on an empty calendar date and see if it will read the one you added. After adding one, try to add two more and compare its behavior from the previous one you did.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

Hi folks,

@Anonymous, thanks for sharing the some tips. That is really helpful.

@Estellegoueth, were you able to try the steps on the link provided? Let us know by responding to this thread.

Seems as of today I am in a similar boat as Estellegoueth. I verbally put in my reminder(s) and when I ask (after the chimes etc) what the notification is, it tells me I do not have any..ugh.. rebooted and attempted all troubleshooting w/ no such luck. Will file feedback....

Seems like I’m having same problem. Reminder just pops up on screen on hub but I have no chime. The only chime I hear is from my mini. I’ve done the all personal results on, voice match on and proactively on. I don’t have do not disturb on either. I just don’t know what’s going on.?

Hey Sheila3,

Thanks for updating the thread. Could you tell us the current firmware version of your device? Also, which specific Nest Hub do you have (1st, 2nd gen, Hub Max)?

Here's the steps on how to check the firmware version of your display:

  1.  Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Looking forward to your response.

Cheers,

Muddi

Thank you for getting back to me. My reminders are working now. I’m not sure what I did. The only thing I did do is I noticed that when trying to set up reminder the reminder was on a different gmail account. So I switched to the account that my google home is on. When I did that it showed up on hub. Next day I had chimes on too.

I’ll keep in mind your tips.  Grateful that someone took intrest.

Hey Sheila3,

Sweet! Happy to hear that the issue is now resolved and thanks for sharing the steps. The account linked on the Google Home app has a big impact when getting notifications on your Nest display as it controls your device and that we're the device gets information from your calendar. Let me know if you still have questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Hi Estelle,

I was running into similar issues when I first bought my Nest Hub 2 gen. and found this last week

https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7550525?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid

Now I get the 2 chimes for reminders I verbally add and it is displayed for me on my device. I hope this is what you were looking for and hope it helps. Stay healthy and safe and Happy Holidays.

The chime says " I have a reminder for Estelle" I ask whats the reminder, immediately right after that, and it starts to list all my daily tasks, new and old. So, no i dont think it helped.

Try asking what's the notification instead.

Sorry, I was trying to help w/ the chime issue...a little slow w/ this one on my end. That's so weird, when I ask what's the reminder I get the same as you but when I ask what's the notification I get the reminder for that time that was "chimed".

Hi folks,

Thanks for keeping this thread up to date.

@Anonymous, we appreciate your help. Thanks for helping out.

@Estellegoueth, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest Hub?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

This is becoming a lot . Thank you for all the suggestions but none have helped so far. Currently this issue seems unsolvable and just becomes time consuming with waiting for responses and all that. If you're able to help someone else on this thread please do that. As for me, I'm over it for now. I'm not looking for firmware and all that. That's enough for me. Shouldn't be this complicated. It's a brand new device. Thx for your effort . I'm over it. Feel free to close out the thread or i can do it. Thanks

I returned mine yesterday...sorry you went through all that for weeks.

Thanks man. It's been a whole month. Now they want firmware. Obviously they don't have a solution for this. It's been an actual month of this.

Hey Estellegoueth,

Sorry for the delays. We really want to help you with your concern, and getting the firmware version of your device will help us isolate the issue whether it's happening on a specific version only or if it's has something to do with the recent update. Rest assured that all information that we are collating is useful for us to check the issue further.

@Anonymous: We're sad to see you go. We hope we can make it up to you in the future. Send us a message if you change your mind.

Hi Muddi,

Thank you for your kind words and support! I still have my Mini and Smart Clock as back up so I will still be around ;). Do you happen to know if there are going to be any new releases of devices in 2023? Thank you again for your continued support.

Hey CraigM3,

That's perfect! No news about that right now, but stay tuned. Normally, your device will receive an update over-the-air so make sure that it is connected to your network.

@Estellegoueth : Have you had the chance to check the firmware version of your device?

Cheers,

Muddi
