Remove YouTube from Google Nest

Giz
Community Member

Hello,

I bought the Nest for my children to listen to music and get organised with the calendar, instead they are using the Nest to watch YouTube. I have put in all the restrictions via the Digital Wellbeing including restricted music and videos blocked but I want to get rid of YouTube videos ENTIRELY. This means ZERO access to YouTube videos of any sort at any time. How do I do this without having to block YouTube via the internet router? Please help.

Disgruntled parent.

Hello Giz,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

What you did on Digital Wellbeing is correct, however, there is no option to totally get rid of YouTube on Google Nest displays as this is one of its default apps. By the way, have you already tried checking these settings?

Turn on Restricted Mode for YouTube Music and YouTube video search

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Notifications & digital wellbeing and then YouTube settings.
  5. Under “Use Restricted Mode,” turn on Restrict for me or Restrict when someone isn’t recognized.

Learn more about YouTube Restricted Mode.

Turn on content filters for YouTube TV

You can allow only programs that are rated YT-Y, YT-G, G and PG.

Note: YouTube TV is available throughout the United States.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Notifications & digital wellbeing and then YouTube settings.
  5. Under “Filter content for YouTube TV,” turn off Filter for me.

Turn off Autoplay next video for YouTube

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Notifications & digital wellbeing and then YouTube settings.
  5. Under “Autoplay next video,” tap Turn off for me or Turn off when someone isn’t recognized.

Let me know if this works.

Best,

Princess
