Dear Google Home Team and Community,
I am a user of the first-generation Google Home Mini. I understand that the Nest series is being updated with Gemini AI. However, it seems that the first-generation Home Mini will not be supported for this update.
Recently, my first-generation Google Home Mini has been experiencing issues with basic functionalities that used to work reliably. For example, it no longer properly provides recipe information when asked, and its search capabilities seem severely impaired, often giving irrelevant or "Sorry, I don't understand" responses to simple queries. This is a noticeable degradation in performance compared to its previous functionality.
If Gemini AI is not going to be supported on the first-generation Home Mini due to hardware limitations or other reasons, I strongly request that these previously reliable features, such as recipe information and search, which now seem to be malfunctioning, be restored to their prior working condition. It's possible that these issues are related to preparations for or compatibility problems with Gemini.
Many of us have been using the first-generation Google Home Mini for a long time and relied on these core functionalities. If these features were impacted in anticipation of or due to compatibility issues with Gemini, and if our devices will not receive the Gemini update, it is only fair that these original features are fully reinstated so we can continue to use our devices as intended.
We understand the need for progress and new technology, but users who are not receiving the new benefits should not have their existing experience negatively impacted. Restoring the previous functionality, including reliable recipe information and search, on the first-generation Google Home Mini would greatly improve the user experience for those of us who will not be getting Gemini AI.
