Set max volume allowed by speech command

Eriksen
Community Member

Hello.

I have several Google Assistant compatible speakers that I control by voice. Mostly this works fine, but 1/100 times the assistant will interpret me saying "Volume 20 percent" as "Max volume" or something similar.
I have large speakers so this is uncomfortable.
Is there any way to limit so that the volume never could be increased past 65% by voice?

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out. Being able to set a maximum volume is a great feature but not available on the Google Home/Nest device. We're always looking for ways to improve - we'll take this as feedback, and we'll gladly pass it along to the team. You can also send feedback using your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." Visit this link for more steps.

@Eriksen: Please try using these commands, "Hey Google, set volume to 2" Let's see if your device volume will still go up to 100%.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Eriksen,

Thanks for reaching out.

Are you referring to lowering the assistant voice of your Google Nest devices?

After you ask your Google Assistant to play media, you can control the volume using commands. You can set the volume to a specific level (1–10) or percent (1–100%).

Important: The languages you can use depend on the device. Learn which languages work on your device.

How to change the volume

Say "Hey Google" or press the button to talk to your Assistant, then say a command:

  • Increase: Turn it up. (Increases volume by 10%).
  • Decrease: Turn it down. (Decreases volume by 10%).
  • Set a specific level or percent: Volume 5. Volume to 65%.
  • Change volume by [X] amount: Increase volume by 10%. Decrease volume by 10%.
  • Maximize: Max volume.
  • Minimize: Minimum volume.

Hope this helps.

Princess

Hi Princess_S.

No, this was not helpful. Based on your answer I do not believe you read more than the headline 🙂

Hi Eriksen,

Sorry for the confusion.

Can you please tell me what are the Google Home/Nest speakers set up in your home? Also, can you please state the exact command and response of your devices?

Let me know more details so we can further isolate the issue.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess_S,

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me.

Problem:
The google assistant misinterprets my volume command.
Example: Voice command "Volume to 20%" sets the volume to 100%.

Consequence:
Broken eardrums.

Question:
Can the google assistant be instructed to never increase volume past a specific limit?
For example: I want set a limit for the google assistant at 65%. This means that the assistant can never increase the volume past 65%, ever. If I ask the assistant to set the volume to 100%, the assistant will not do so, but limit it to 65%.

Desired outcome:
I issue a voice command for 20% volume but the google assistant misinterprets the command as "Volume to 100%". The result is that the volume still does not increase past 65%.

I hope this is understandable.

Hi Eriksen,

I appreciate the details you've shared.

By any chance, have you already tried performing a full reset to your Google Nest speaker to see if that would make any changes on its behavior? Lastly, is this the only speaker that you're having issues with this behavior?

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess_S,

Yes, I have tried a reset, but due to a different issue. Is this type of behavior where the assistant misinterprets words totally unheard of? If no; have resets ever fixed the assistant misinterpreting words?

It is the only one. I have disabled the assistant on my other speakers to avoid damaging them.

Has this been resolved. I would like to set a maximum volume limit of 40% on the speakers in my children's rooms but I cannot find a way to do this.
