Speaker groups deleted but still recognized by speakers

I once had a "home group" that contained all the smart speakers. It was acting off so I tried to delete it and remake it. I did this twice but eventually disappeared from the home app on the third try. They currently do not show up on the home app BUT when I say, "ok Google play music on home group" it replies with something like "I can play that on home group, home group, or home group." How do I clear these from the server/cache/wherever so I can get my home group working again?

I had to spin up an android VM, load that old version of the google home app and then I saw all these phantom groups and was able to delete them as described in the Reddit post. Not sure if they made any changes to correct this issue in the latest edition though because I don’t have the issue anymore to test it.

Here is the fix if you have an android:

If like me you have an iPhone, there is no solution. It seems people have been having this same problem for over two years now and it hugely affects normal use of the google ecosystem. It’s really poor service that Google hasn’t fixed it yet.

Sadly this has not worked. I still cannot tell my speakers to play on "home group" - i've done this process multiple times with both accounts on the "home" environment

I followed instructions in the link above but unfortunately no go for me. The old version of the app just seems to show the one existing group.

I see that this is a long standing issue but I can’t understand why. This is a major functional problem. I expected much better from a home tech giant like google.
