Speaker in other room 30 feet away keeps responding

I have a 2nd gen Nest Hub in my kitchen and a 1st gen hub in my living room. The 1st gen hub is about 30 feet away from the kitchen with walls in between the rooms. When we are in our kitchen and say Hey Google, the 1st gen hub in the living room responds most of the time. The new 2nd gen hub in the kitchen will have a pop up asking if that was the wrong device and I tell it yes every time.

I sit and work all day in my kitchen with the new 2nd gen Hub next to me just 3 feet away, and still the one in the living room that is 30 feet away from me with a wall and just a 3 foot doorway in-between responds. Sometimes if I am standing literally right in front of the kitchen speaker, less than a foot away, the living speaker 30 feet away in another room still responds instead.

Here is what I have done so far:

- Confirmed both speakers are on the same wifi and are connected to the same google account and google home

- Factory reset both speakers

- I set the sensitivity to the one in the living room to the lowest setting and the one in the kitchen to the highest.

- Unplugged all my speakers and my router. Plugged my router back in and plugged the speakers back in.

I can't turn off the mic on the hub in the living room because we use it to stream music in that room. Is there something wrong with my new 2nd gen Hub?

Hey there,

Appreciate the info. With both speakers on different networks, let's try this. Set them both on the same 2.4 GHz frequency, while they're on the same network, mute one speaker and give command to the other one and vice versa. Check if they reply if the other is muted. After that, unmute both and give command to the closest one and see if the behavior persists. It would be helpful if all devices are on the 2.4 GHz including your phone. Also, try to give a command by saying "Hey, Google! Play music on (name of speaker)".

Tell me how it goes.

Cheers,

Dan

I have a similar problem. It's very frustrating. I'll sit here with you to wait for some advice.

It is almost unusable. I am constantly yelling at the speaker in the other room to stop. I never had the problem up until a couple of months ago and now it is just chaos in here with speakers all over the place responding to requests. Google used to be able to tell which speaker I was closest to and would always respond on that one. Now its anarchy. My phone even responds now sometimes instead of the hub which never used to happen.

Hi folks,

That certainly hasn't been easy for all of you ― let’s check this out and find the solution together. It would really help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot for all your devices. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by all your Nest speakers. Plug them back in starting with your router. Restarting your phone might also help. Once everything’s back up and running, mute your Nest speakers except for one and check if it responds to your command. Kindly check each device and tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan

Did that and it has not fixed the issue. Here are all the steps I have taken this week so far:

- Confirmed both speakers are on the same wifi and are connected to the same google account and google home

- Factory reset both speakers

- I set the sensitivity to the one in the living room to the lowest setting and the one in the kitchen to the highest.

- Unplugged all my speakers and my router. Plugged my router back in and plugged the speakers back in.

Hi winterwolfes,

Hats off to you in taking the steps. It would also help a lot if you can confirm which Nest Hub is closer to your router and if there is any interference between them. How about if you give command to the other Nest device, does the other one respond?

Keep us posted.

Regards,

Dan

The kitchen speak is closest to the router. It is about 24 feet away and is connected to the 5G connection. The other speaker is about another 25 feet from the router and is connected to the 2.4G connection. The weird thing is that the speaker in the  other room is in the same room as the satellite for my router and is only 10 feet from it but connected to my router directly for some reason. Also the speaker in my kitchen is way closer to the router but still the speaker in the other room responds most of the time.
