TV not appearing under Settings -> Display -> Default TV in My Nest Display in Google Home app

Hi,

I have a chromecast (1st Gen) connected to my TV and a Nest Hub Display set-up within Google Home app. Until couple of weeks ago, I was able to give voice command to Nest Hub to play some content from Netflix, Youtube etc. to my TV. But that has stopped working now. There has been no change to my wifi, network name, password, linked account etc. Only thing I notice is that TV not appearing under Settings -> Display -> Default TV in My Nest Display in Google Home app

I searched a lot and tried lot of options like removing devices (chromecast, display) from Google Home, adding them back in, resetting/rebooting the devices but nothing worked. Appreciate if you can provide some help here so that I can continue to use voice command on my Nest Hub to play contents on my TV.

Thank you.

PS: I raised this 2 months ago but didn't receive any response.

Hi GA362,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having troubles with your Chromecast 1 Gen. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

Before I begin, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • When did the issue start?
  • Have you tried restarting your router?
  • Is the Chromecast appearing on the Google Home app?
  • Are you able to cast from your cell phone to the Chromecast?

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi GA362,

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear that the issue persists.

After checking in our resources, the reason why your Chromecast 1 gen is not working is because support for Chromecast (1st gen) has ended, which means it no longer receives software or security updates, and Google doesn't provide technical support. Users may notice a degradation in performance, and this can be the reason why it is not working when you try to give some voice command to the device.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin
