The mic is off...the mic is back on

CassThorn

Google home mini has suddenly starts saying "the mic is off" and a second later saying "the mic is back on". I have checked the toggle switch for debris. It is clear. I have also did a reset. Still does it. This particular mini sits on an upper shelf in our dining room and isn't handled often if at all so unsure why it has randomly started to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can I also piggyback on this issue?

We have 3 minis, and a nest hub, only 1 mini is experiencing this.

I did a factory reset, the issue still persists.

Help!!!!

My Home Mini also suddenly started muting itself (rarely does it unmute itself - which makes the device useless).

I also did a factory reset but it didn't resolve the issue.

I spoke with support and they informed me the device is out of its warranty date so I cannot get a replacement.

Disappointing.

We have a pair that we're purchased directly from Google, at the same time.

One is fine, the other is faulty.

Hi Jake,

My Home Mini is still not able to accept voice commands - the 4 orange dots constantly display across the top regardless of the microphone switch position.

Why would this happen suddenly when the device hasn't moved from the spot I had placed it in? No bumps, no drops - just one day decided to quit on me.

Best,
Stephen

Everything i found online said the switch had gone bad so the home mini went in the trash. So I guess at the very least it's no longer an active annoyance

I ended up just throwing away all my broken devices and going with Bluetooth speakers. Which is a shame.

Hi Jake - the form wouldn't let me submit when I filed it out. Is there another way to get in touch?

This is now happening to one of my minis as well. Was there ever a solution?

No, they took forever to respond to me so I just gave it away to someone who thought they could fix it. I did see a YouTube video showing how to remove the faulty switch but once they started removing the teen tiny motherboard,  I was uninterested.

Hey,

I have google mini. . And i am facing the same issue from past few days.  Have tried resetting it, but the issue continues to persist. Can anyone help about this issue please ?

It seems to be a hardware problem with the mute switch. I am just speculating here but the devices which caused this problem for me were the devices that I kept on my windowsills. This might not be the case for you. It might be a complete red herring. I'm wondering if it has to do with condensation getting on the switch and causing it to short out. In any case, I ended up throwing the devices away and buying new ones. It pains me to have to throw away and otherwise perfectly good piece of technology, but I'm not handy enough to replace a switch and the problem never resolved itself.

I have a similar problem. Mine in the last couple hours has said the mic has been turned off. The mic has been turned on. I've been sitting in the same spot and can see it so unless dust is messing with it, I'm guessing its crappy hardware! It'll be going in thw garbage if it keeps it up and I have no real need to replace

Did you get resolution? Mine is doing the same thing. Started recently for no reason.
