Turn on 1 light, Google turns on 2.

I have 1 light called "toilet" and 1 light called "bathroom", in 2 separate rooms. For the last couple of days, when I say turn on "toilet", both of these lights turn on. Likewise, if I say turn on "bathroom" both turn on (same for turning off). It doesn't appear that these lights are both in the same group, but what's happening would indicate they are grouped somehow. Any ideas please.

I forgot to mention the light called "toilet" is in a room called "toilet" & the light called bathroom" is in the room called bathroom. It looks like Goggle is assuming both the toilet & bathroom are the single room, which isn't the case. The problem started about 2 days ago, maybe there was an update of some sort?

I have had all kinds of missconducts since the introduction of Gemini.
I use Meross smartswitches and the devices are called "01 namexxxx" to "12 namexxxx"
Before gemini I only had to say "hey google turn on/off 0x" (so, any number between 01 and 12) and it worked fine. Now it wont unless I say the whole thing.

PLUS

I just created an action called "ACTIVAR GRANJA" (as I'm spanish) which translates to ENABLE FARM.

The stupid MOFO FARTED ON MY FACE IN SPANISH! As I guess he understood "ENABLE FART" even if I spoke in spanish!!!

Hi @garydingle

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest community. I'm sorry you're having trouble turning on your lights in those rooms using Automation, but there's no need to worry; I'm happy to help you right now.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • Before the issue started, was the Automation working?
  • Did you create Automation recently?
  • Did you try to delete the Automation and create a new one?
  • Did you try to use a different specific name for those Automations?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

I think I may have the same issue as OP, automation was working 100% fine for years prior to just the last 2 ish weeks. I have Lifx globes linked to google and they are the name of the lights from the beginning of install. Never any issues before this. I have noticed that arround the time just before the 2 lights at a time issue started google keeped saying that the lights were offline but through the Lifx app showed fine and worked fine. The automation is the default one, none setup just “ok google, turn on toilet” - “ ok turning on 2 lights” or “ding”

I hope that helps

Hi @Djkoby,

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the information you provided me; it looks like the problem is with the Automation, but I need to confirm a couple of things:

  • Do you have your lights Set up in the Google Home app?
  • What app are you using for Automation?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Regards,

Gabriela

Hi Gabriel

I have Lifx globes setup in the Lifx app and linked google home app via “works with google”.

im useing native google at my automation nothing special.

in the master bedroom “room” I have 6 lights and plugs all called different things and when I ask google to turn on/off XXX every thing works and shows fine. The only issue I have is google assistant Australia think that toilet and bathroom (2 seperate rooms/lights) are the same thing and instead of turning on just the toilet or bathroom it turns them both on.

if you can get this separated so that when we ask google to turn on bathroom or toilet it only turns on 1 device as it did a few weeks ago

Hi Gabriela

Before the problem started, everything was working OK.

I hadn't created automation recently.

Yes, I have tried deleting & reinstating the  2 lights.

These lights are NOT part of an automation. They are just 2 lights in separate rooms.

2 other people have reported the same problem, so I think it is a bug, introduced with updated software.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest community. I'm sorry to hear your lights are not working as expected with Google Home Automations, but no need to worry; help is here.

To get a better understanding of the situation, please help me out by answering the following questions:

  • Can you please tell me what is the brand of your smart lights?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What app are you using for Automation?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Gabriela

  • Can you please tell me what is the brand of your smart lights?
    I am useing Lifx globes

  • When did the issue start?I don’t have a date but about 1.5 - 2 weeks ago

  • What app are you using for Automation? native google smart speakers around my home

LIFX

1.5 - 2 weeks ago

I'm not sure what you mean by "Automation". In Google Home there is an Automation section, which has preset items, but I'm not using any of those. I just say "turn on toilet", "turn off lounge 1" etc. As someone has already stated, it appears Google is thinking that "toilet" & "bathroom" are in the same room, but they are not.

Is there an official Google site we can report this behavior as a bug?

I have been in contact with google chat help via google home app. We have changed the name of the toilet to restroom and works fine. Seams to be an auto correct thing with languages like we think. Best you can do at this stage is send feedback to the engineers as we keep getting the same results here. I’m going to send weekly until it’s fixed

Google is treating bathroom and toilet as the same name and therefore the same room,  I changed toilet to closet , now they are separated and working again.   It's a recently introduced bug

Thanks for confirming this. Hopefully Google will fix the bug ASAP.

Any suggestions?

Hi @danielbrown8998,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I sincerely apologize for the inconvinience with Google Nest Integration with other Smart Home Devices, and I appreciate you taking the time to share this situation. I'm happy to help you.

I've reviewed the information you provided, and I have a few more questions to help me better understand the situation.

  • Which smart home devices are you having trouble integrating with your Google Nest devices?
  • Which app are you using for this process (Google Home App or Nest App?
  • Could you describe the specific issues you're encountering with the integration?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps already, such as restarting devices, checking Wi-Fi connectivity, or re-linking accounts?
  • Are there any error messages or unusual behavior you've noticed?

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Hello

I'm having trouble integrating my smart lights with Google Nest. I'm using the Google Home App. The lights aren't responding properly after setup. I've tried restarting devices and checking Wi-Fi but no luck. No error messages, just inconsistent behavior.

It looks like the bug has been fixed. The bathroom & toilet lights are now operating properly in 2 separate rooms.

Same here wasn’t working last night but definitely now. Thanks google
