Tv won't turn off with voice command or through home app

Chicksel

Hi Guys

Not sure if I choose the right category, if not let me know and I will change it.

Allright so the situation is as followed. I have a home mini speaker in my bedroom, also have a chromecast with Google TV (HD) connected to the TV in my bedroom. When I use the chromecast remote I can turn the TV on and off with no problem.

When I use the voice command turn the TV on, or use the on button on the remote in the Google home app from the chromecast all works fine.

But when I use the voice  command turn the tv off or use the off button on the remote in the Google home app all that happens is that the chromecast is turned off. I then get the LG Screensaver logo since nothing else is turned on, on the tv. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, in my son's room everything works but the  chromecast and nest are different versions.

Anyone any idea what may cause this? TV and chromecast both have CEC enabled, but still turning off with voice command or through the app doesn't work...

Hello Chicksel,

Thanks for posting here in the Community.

Go ahead and disable your TV's CEC setting for a minute before enabling it again. Reboot both your TV and Google Home devices afterwards, and then check if you can turn off your Bedroom TV using the Google Home app and voice command.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hi lovely

Sadly that didn't work. The TV and chromecast turn on with voice command but when I want to turn it off only the chromecast turns off and not the tv

Hi there,

Chiming in, thank you for trying. Could you check if you experience the same issue when using the Google Assistant app on your phone? This will help us further isolate the issue. Also, is your Chromecast device connected to a different power outlet?

Hi, do you mean activating the Google assistant on my phone and telling it to turn the TV off or through the Google home app?

The chromecast is on its own power outlet.

Hey Chicksel,

Got it! You have to activate the Google Assistant app on the phone.

Google assistant is active on my phone, just wanted to check how you meant it. Will be home in a little while, will test it then

Hello Chicksel,

Sorry for the confusion. We have to try using the Google Assistant app on your phone to turn off the TV by simply activating the app then say the command, "Hey Google, turn of <name of Chromecast>."

Hi Muddi

That also doesnt work. I just find it strange that i can turn the tv on with the nest with no problems but turning it off only makes it turn off the chromecast.

Hello Chicksel,

This certainly hasn't been easy on you. I highly suggest checking with LG support to see if this feature is supported. Certain voice commands are not supported by the manufacturers, which is why the Google Home Mini is unable to perform them.

Lovely

Hi lovely

On my other lg TV everything works with no problems. Could it be that I'm using an older model nest in my bedroom that only supports the on command and not the off command?

Hey Chicksel,

All Google Home and Nest speakers or displays are compatible to turn on/off a cast-enabled TV or TV's with Chromecast devices connected. I suggest that you try resetting your TV, then check if that makes any difference. Is it's still the same, I suggest we follow the advice of LovelyM to call the TV manufacturer.

Hi muddi

What do you mean with resetting the TV?

I reset the TV to factory settings but that doesn't work. It goes on with the voice command but when I say to turn off the TV it only turns off the chromecast and not the TV

Hi there,

Thanks for trying. To confirm, is there a soundbar or speakers connected to your TV?

Hey Chicksel,

The last thing that we can do is to check with your TV manufacturer if it supports turning off the device voice command. Also, what is the firmware version of the Chromecast device connected to TV?

Hello Chicksel,

Sorry for the delays. Simplink is designed for basic control of your TV through HDMI. The firmware on your Chromecast Google TV is up to date. It may be helpful to contact LG support to determine if your TV supports voice commands for turning it off with a third-party device like the Home Mini. This will allow me to proceed to the next steps in resolving the issue. Once they confirm that the feature is supported, I can then forward this with our Senior Specialist team for further investigation.

Hi Chicksel,

Thank you for informing us. As you have confirmed with the TV manufacturer that turning off via voice command is not supported, we can now consider this thread resolved. I understand that this may not be the ideal resolution you were hoping for, but please let us know if you have any further questions. Otherwise, I will be locking this thread after 24 hours.

Its a shame that it wont work with my current tv but at least i know now that it wasnt because of a misconfiguration or something.

Thanks for all the help though!
