Two google accounts, one person - How to make mini only use one account's services?

Hi!

I have two google accounts connected to my minis because both accounts have different things I prefer them for (one has youtube premium and most of my info for assistant, the other has spotify premium, most of my calendar stuff, etc). The problem is I don't have two voices for the mini to differentiate which account to use.

I've noticed the mini changes which account's services it uses when say I ask "Hey Google, play music"; sometimes it plays from my Youtube premium, sometimes it plays from the free account. I have the premium set as default - but it only goes as far as that email's default, not the default for the "Home". And when I tried to fix it (i.e. "Hey Google, play music on YT Premium"), I lost all casting capability in terms of my mini communicating on the youtube music app what was playing.

I know I can manually go to the YoutubeMusic or Spotify apps from my preferred accounts and start casting, but the whole point of smart speakers is bypassing that, right?

Any suggestions? Please and Thanks in advance!

Hey SamK,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's check what's going on with your Google Home Mini.

When playing music on your device, it will pool the music from the same account you've used in setting up your device. However, if you're using two accounts, your Google Home Mini will be confused on what account it will use especially if you both trained your voice to them. Is it happening when you specifically asked where to pool your music ( Hey Google, Play < song title> from Spotify or YouTube)?

Keep me posted.

Best,

Alex

Hi Alex!

Thanks for the response. So I've tried all sorts of commands, it seems to only wants to play from the non-premium account (which is weird because it was using the premium originally). Even if I specifically ask "hey google play youtube music premium" or "...play [song] from youtube premium" it seems to only pull up music with a related word of premium, not the actual account. Even then it still won't project the controls or yknow the current track/queue to my phone (in terms of YT Music I mean - I can control  the mini from the Home app but even pressing "open youtube music" from home opens to the app as if nothing is playing), I have to manually cast youtube music from my phone to control it.

I mean, I guess I could try just swapping the set-up account but how would I do that? I'm not even sure which account is the primary on my phone in terms of calendars and driving habits for assistant purposes.

Any suggestions?

Best,
Sam

Hey SamK,

Thanks for getting back to me.

You can verify that the Google account shown is the one linked to the speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap the drop-down arrow ^, then choose another account or Add another account. If possible, try removing all other accounts on your Google Home app to isolate if you'll get the same result.

Kind regards,

Alex
