Upgrade to Gemini

Funny thing, for me anyway.  I have two Google Home (1st gen) locations on my network, both physically on the same property, named Home and Barn.  Well, the Barn system has upgraded to Gemini (I was farting around with doing the upgrade and Barn got it) while the Home system has not.  When I try to upgrade Home, all I can do is put myself on the list for when it's available.  Huh???  Any ideas?

Hi @Joacchim

You've not done anything wrong. Gemini for Home is being rolled out at the Home level and not by account - so what that means is when you get the invite and choose to upgrade, it will upgrade all of the devices in that house (but not across other houses you may have associated with your user account). If you have multiple homes in the Google Home app, you may have only been invited to enable Gemini for Home voice assistant in one of your homes. Please check your other homes to see if Gemini for Home voice assistant has been enabled there. You will be notified again when the Gemini for Home voice assistant is available in your other homes.

Thanks, @David_K Is there a way to check whether Gemini for home has been enabled, besides asking Google and getting "Sorry, I didn't understand"?

You'll know because you have to manually opt in.

You’ll receive a notification with the message “Introducing Gemini for Home” once the upgrade to Gemini for Home is available for your home. Tap on the notification to be directed to the Google Home app, then tap Get started and follow the prompts to set up your Gemini for Home.

If you choose Not now and you have a Google Home Premium subscription, you can set it up later through the following options:

  • Open the Google Home app and a prompt will appear. Tap Get Started.
  • Open the Google Home app and go to your inbox. Check for the message about setting up Gemini for Home.

I finally got this update and I went through the prompts and accepted everything. Reset my speaker and tried talking to it but it seemed to have not been upgraded still. Went back to the app and found the gemini in settings and it just had the option to opt in again... So I did and now I'm stuck on the wait list again
