Voice commands no longer work on my google HOME device. When i give a voice command it now says "Please log in through the google app."  But it wont pair in settings. This has worked for years but all of a sudden it has stopped and i AM logged into my google account.
If I ask the home device to play music it just plays on my phone.

Try these steps:

  1. Open the Home app and tap the Devices tab.
  2. Press and hold on your speaker > settings cog > Remove device.
  3. Once removed, tap + Add at the bottom right of the Devices tab.
  4. Tap New device and follow the steps on screen.

If these steps above don’t solve the issue, you’ll need to factory reset your speaker or display, then set it up again.

Hello David,

Thank you so much for your help! I previously was not able to "add new device" - it would never find it even though my phone was right next to it.

I tried the factory reset you stated above and it 'started' to work (thank you!) where i could finally add the new device ...and then I got an error:
"Your google home was set up successfully but can't be found. Make sure your mobile device and google home are on the same WiFi network.
Turn off AP isolation if its enabled on your WiFi router. You will need to disable it."

No idea what that means. My phone is on the same wifi network as the google home. I've never had to do this before or heard of AP isolation?

I have WiFi 6 (different from 2.4 and 5 ghz - but it was working after I upgraded to that.

That error typically means your phone wasn't able to communicate properly with your speaker or display. It can often be solved by restarting your device, phone, and router or it can sometimes be something more advanced. Try these troubleshooting steps:

Thank you so much! I will try all of those steps to see if they work - especially the step about shutting off cellular data.

I've never had trouble setting things up before - but I just remembered I bought a new Wi-Fi extender not too long ago, so maybe that is part of the problem. I have WiFi 6 and the new extender is supposed to be WiFi 6 AND dual band 2.4 and 5 GHz. But maybe something isn't working.

THANK YOU!!!!! If I get it working I will let you know what the issue was.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! 😊😊😊
