I have a few different Google home speakers in my house. And over the last couple days whenever I use the broadcast feature, the bell dings in the other rooms of the house like a broadcast is incoming... But then it's total silence.
This happens no matter which speaker I am using, And it also happens if I try to broadcast a message from my phone (Which, since we're here, broadcasting from my phone is such a pain now. I used to just press and hold that little. At the bottom and now I got to go through a whole bunch of crap to get it done.)
The speaker clearly hears me, I'm just not sure if it's getting the message, there's just silence on the other end.
I have already tried restarting devices, And allowing Google to record my voice data (Which I absolutely do not like).
Any help Would be appreciated

Busted here too. My whole family is ready to chuck google. It keeps talking without being asked and wont talk when specifically asked. Dumb robot.

This has been working fine for years. For the past week or 2 it just stopped broadcasting. I say the command, It asks me for the message, I hear the other speaker beep. Then nothing. It appears that all is good from the sending speaker, but nothing on the other speakers. I cannot find any "Do not disturb" setting and I rebooted all the devices. Everything else seems to work for me. I can't figure this out. Please help.

Having the same problem on all our Google Home Minis.

Last night I was able to say "Ok Google" then "Broadcast" and immediately say what I wanted. It worked a couple of times and then nothing. I have no idea why it's doing this. I use this feature a lot so I would really like to get this thing working again.

I've been using the broadcast function in a scheduled routine to announce a reminder to take my medication every night. I have a few devices throughout my home, so I'd always hear the message just to make sure I don't forget. The past few days, no announcement. The animation still appears on my hub, but no message is heard. I hope they can fix this soon.

I am having the same issue. The devices will beep and then nothing.

Yep. Same thing. So apparently it's not just me. This MUST be a Google thing and I hope they fix it. Is Google even monitoring this group? How can we get an answer from Google???

This! I just reset / redid ALL 14 of my automations to see if it would help. Nothing. Maybe 1/10 times it works randomly. It's maddening. It's been off for the last week or so. We use broadcasts as alarms on all our google minis around the house too for our kids. FIX THIS GOOGLE!

I think we need to reach out to Google support so they can have a record of the issue. It doesn't seem like they monitor this forum.

Thats just uit. It HASNT been working fijne for years. Google KEEPS breaking this specific functionality ever since they placed al their bets, and engineers on that no good AI crap.. getting pretty fed up. I hope the Chinese come up with something better soon.

Seriously?? You are going to pretend that it is something on the user end, and waste peoples time with a wild goose chase? Fix your system.

How about stop giving us canned replies? It is obvious that this is happening to alot of people. Another Google udate that stops features from working is my guess.
Gaslighting the customers telling them it is on their end is ridiculous and unprofessional.

Same problem - only the tone plays. I don't think it is anyone's setup, just a problem that Google introduced recently. Our 3 minis all have the same problem, regardless of whether just one is targeted or all three, and regardless of source.

I've got the same problem, it's a major pain. One small help after you hear the bell/chime is to say "ok Google, repeat" and then it will chime and play the message like it should've the first time.

I'm also experiencing problems with broadcast. I have a few 1st gen Google Home Minis, a Google Home, and I have a Google Nest Wifi point. The broadcast function randomly works. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it broadcasts to a few devices but not all. Sometimes it works perfectly. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. It used to work perfectly until maybe ... a month ago or so. I removed the devices and factory reset them, and re-added them to no avail.

I found a workaround that you all may try. It worked for us, but may not work for everyone. We used the Broadcast feature all the time. We actually thought that it would eventually get better, like open a live intercom. Obviously, this hasn't happened and total frustration when it stopped working completely recently like all of you. It was the same thing...ask for the broadcast, it heard you because everything happened like normal up until the actual message (questions, acknowledgement, chime... then nothing). Sigh
Here's what I did. I used the Automations option in the Google Home app. It's pretty much setting up a Routine. You can create a Starter, which could be something you ask your Google Assistant. They give you a field to type in. I chose "It's dinner time". Then you select an action. Well, that action can be an announcement. I typed in "Hey everyone dinner is ready". Then you chose which device or devices it plays the announcement on. I selected all of them. Once you save everything, it even allows you to create a button or shortcut on your phone's home screen. This is why I said it might not work for everyone. It's only setting up one broadcast message. BUT.... Funny enough. When I set this up, and ran a test, the Broadcast feature now works again. Maybe I just needed to remind my Google Assistant that it could do it. A little positivity and encouragement. Ha!

So I did this, and when I used my test automation in the Google Home app yes, it worked and the broadcast message was spoken. But then I went back to Home Assistant (which we use for home automation), which uses broadcast for many notifications (someone is on the front porch/the garage door was opened, etc) it still just plays the chime and the message is not spoken; no fix for me. (My workaround is to use Piper (TTS) in Home Assistant to "play" the notifications to our Minis, which works fine although the voice is different and they aren't synchronized as much as the broadcasts were.)

Merci

Has there been any fix on this? Or has google recognized that this is an issue?
03-17-2025 06:15 PM
Add me to the pile of ppl with this issue. Very frusterated with Google's embracing Gemini at the apparent expense of Assistant.... Come on Google!

Spoke with google support and they tell me there is a bug being worked on. If you are having a problem, send feedback in the google home app.
Open Google home app - Favorites - tap your profile - feedback - choose your device - and put your issue description on the box then send.
03-18-2025 07:18 AM
You spoke with customer support?? How come they tell you straight away theres a bug theyre working on but they fail to acknowledge all reports here??? And what bug? Theres a gazillion of bugs in assistant. And finally, just say hey google, send feedback. Much simpeler and same result: nothing happens.

Same problem. Another stupid Google update?
03-19-2025 07:05 AM
I'm experiencing the same issue. I haven't changed any settings recently, it just stopped working, works speaker to speaker but no whole house broadcasts.
