Hi all. I've been googling like crazy but can't figure out if this is possible.... I'm setting up Google Home for a senior. She can say "Call so and so" and it works great for landlines. No cell phone so it's voip. It doesn't seem to work tho to phone a cell phone this way, with voip. It says making audio call and then you hear a funny ring tone but the cell phone never gets the call. I'm thinking you can't call a cell phone over voip?

Hi Marlaine,
Depending on where in the world you are the calling feature works differently. Have a look at the Google Nest help center link below for more information.

Depends on the VOIP service used behind the scenes? Would likely require a paid subscriprion to call cell phone numbers (Microsoft Teams for instance requires this), if the VOIP product used even offers it.
But I don't know, I'm just thinking out loud here.

That's pretty well what my reading showed. I'll have to look for another voice activated method, she's legally blind and loving her Google Home so far

Thanks for the link. We're in canada and she is just using her internet connection so no cell calls. I'll have to look into whatsapp or Skype. Has to be voice commands tho given her sight issues. Thanks for the info

There was, until a few days ago, this particular bug specifically with calling T-Mobile numbers. It has now been fixed.

Oops just read you are in Canada (me too!) So you're probably not calling t-mo users. Sometimes Google has problems connecting with specific carriers, it'd be worth testing to see if all your problems are with a single carrier, rather than being "all mobiles".

I am a UK user myself so unfortunately voice calls works differently for me 😮💨
