What is the point of the Nest hub?

I bought a Nest Hub Max, assuming it would seamlessly integrate with my devices. However it seems that it doesn’t have the capability to display motion notifications from my Nest doorbell, which my iPhone or iPad can do. I found several posts on this topic here and it seems that it just can’t do it. Is there any reason not to just buy an older generation iPad for about the same price to have on my counter to use with my google devices?  It seems like that would do everything the Nest hub can do with my devices and more.  I can’t figure out anything the hub does that an iPad with the Google Home app wouldn’t do as well or better.  That seems impossible though, so I want to make sure I am not overlooking something before I return it. What is the point of the Nest hub?
