I used to be able to press the microphone button on the phone and say "broadcast" and send a msg to the google mini. Now I just get the definition of "broadcast". Anyone can help?

Hello @berger07

Thanks for reaching out to our Nest Community about this broadcast feature. I apologize for all the inconvenience; don't worry, I'm here to help you with that.

Let me start asking some questions to determine the reason for this situation.

The same Google Account is signed-in on the mobile device and is signed-in to the Google Home device?
Did you check if the Not Disturb mode is off?
Do you know if the Google Home device firmware version is 1.39154941 or later?

Feel free to share these details, and I will definitely do my best to find a solution for you.

Best regards,

Douglas.

Everything looks to be in order. I"m still able to connect to the google mini, the broadcast isn't working from my wife's phone as well.

Hey there!

It sounds like you're running into a hiccup with your Google Assistant broadcast. This is definitely something we're working hard to improve.
Potential Solutions:

Check Google Assistant Settings:

  • Open the Google Assistant app.
  • Go to Settings > Home Control.
  • Ensure that "Broadcast" is enabled and configured correctly.
  • Check for any updates or changes in the settings.

Verify Device Connections and Network:

  • Make sure your Pixel 7 and Google Home devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Check for network connectivity issues by trying other online services.
  • Temporarily disable any VPN or Wi-Fi extender to isolate the problem.

Update Google Assistant and Device Software:

  • Ensure that your Pixel 7 and Google Home devices have the latest software updates installed.
  • Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Try Different Broadcast Commands:

  • Experiment with alternative phrases like "send a broadcast" or "broadcast a message."
  • Google Assistant may have changed the recognized commands.

Check Google Home App:

  • Open the Google Home app and verify that all devices are online and grouped correctly.
  • Try creating a new group of devices and see if broadcasting works within that group.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your Pixel 7 and Google Home device.
  • A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches.

Unlink and Relink Devices:

  • Unlink your Google Home device from the Google Assistant app and then relink it.
  • This can sometimes refresh the connection and resolve issues.

Factory Reset Google Home (Last Resort):

  • If none of the above solutions work, you can try factory resetting your Google Home device.
  • Be aware that this will erase all settings and data on the device.

If you've tried these steps and still experience problems, please let me know. You can also try reaching out to our Google Assistant support team for more specific troubleshooting. They'll be able to assist you further.

Best,

Brandon.
