can't actvate google nest hub with pixel 6 pro

That's it, new hub - new phone - all on google fiber with google wifi (mesh)- no joy.  Nest doorbell (wired) works great.  I've tried: factory refresh hub, g-home is up to date, g-device utility removed & re-installed.  Wifi is off, it has location permission.  Did I buy a brick?

I eventually used my  old iPhone and got it going.  End result is I'm rather unimpressed.

Hi macmccaskie,

Thanks for reaching out.

Sorry to hear about what's happening right now with connecting your Google Nest Hub to your network. Could you tell us if there are other Google Home/Nest speakers connected on the same Wi-Fi network? Let's check your Google Nest Hub's distance from the router first and it's connectivity. Make sure that the phone is in the same Wi-Fi frequency as where we are setting up the Google Nest Hub.

Lastly, can you tell us if there are nay error messages or prompt that you are getting every time you try to set it up? I'd love to know more details so we can start some troubleshooting steps.

Best,

Princess

Hi macmccaskie,

Thanks for responding.

It looks like it's a device specific issue that you're experiencing since it worked using a different phone. I would highly suggest to check Google Pixel Support so they can guide you with some settings.

Best,

Princess

I can confirm this is STILL an issue and has now been for months.  I had to use my old Motorola phone to set up a new Google Nest Hub Max today as my Pixel 6 just told me it "needs to be registered" - also seems to be an issue with new Chrome Cast devices.  Worked perfectly on my old Motorola G9.

Hey BeerDad,

I am sorry to hear you are also running into the issue. I would recommend heading over to our Google Pixel Support  page for further help. Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions from here.

Was your G9 on android 12?  I'm wondering if it's a pixel problem (likely as all I've had are problems with that waste of 1500 dollars), or an Android 12 problem?  I eventually used an old samsung that was on 11.

The G9 is on Android 11, Motorola never bothered to update it to 12 (part of the reason I got a Pixel 6) - I haven't tried it again since the most recent update so not sure if it has been fixed now.

It's not fixed on Android 12/Pixel 6.  I just tried it yesterday.  Had to use my old S6 to set up the camera.

I have the same issue.  How is the pixel 6 pro such a colossal piece of **bleep**?  I also had to use a different device to set up a nest cam.

Same issue for me on the pixel 6, AP isolation off, can see the hub connected to my 5G wifi network but the pixel 6 / google home app couldn't finish setup.

Had to reset the hub and use an iphone!

I just experienced this frustrating issue. Purchased two Google Hub Maxs, only affected one of them.

Could NOT activate new Google Hub Max with the following:

  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 3 XL
  • Pixel 3

Factory reset did not help.

Was able to finally activate with a Chromebook with Google Home installed.

Help literature was really lacking. Wanted to add my experience here since issue was not isolated to pixel 6 and I was able to finally activate with a Google product.

Hey OptimistPrime,

We appreciate your patience. You can see the official post from our team about this topic here. Also, for most Google Nest devices you will only need to use the Device Utility app to complete the initial setup, after which the device should receive an update.

Thanks,

Alex
