disable cast on google home mini ?

I have several rooms defined in google home that consists of 2 devices:

1) google home mini
2) google chromecast audio

When using spotify, deezer or any other casting capable android APP I get a very large list of google cast devices.

Atleast 50% of those are google home mini devices which I have no intensions of casting to as I have the chromecast audio sitting right next to it. I would always choose the chromecast audio device to cast to and only use the home mini for voice control etc.

If I could only disable the casting functionality of the google home mini device it would automatically make the list of available devices for casting a lot smaller in the above mentioned casting apps.

I havent seen any apps that does this filtration of casting devices as this could also solve it.

Maybe I am the only one requesting this feature ?

Hi @gibman you can't turn off the ability, it's hardcoded, and as long as the device is plugged in it's on and available. Unfortunately one can't define the CCA as the default device, I presume that's because it's connected to the audio jack of some other speaker and can be moved about as necessary.

Using your voice to play what you want to the CCA is the only way I know to bypass that list, that's how I've done it in the extremely rare instances I've needed to use the CCA. Obviously, if you're using a non-Google Assistant-enabled app or service, voice isn't an option and you will have to pick your speaker.

hi GothamNY.

Thanks for replying back to me.

It seems to be hardcoded as you say. But that doesn't mean they cant make it a proper enduser option in the future, right ?
I know you can define a default chromecast device for music and video within the google home app.
This can be done for any google home mini/nest device.

I guess this only helps you when you are using voice commands for the google home mini.
eg. when saying stuff like : "hey google play some movie on netflix". Then the google mini knows that we are talking about a video here and thus it looks at what the user has defined here for the default video device and the task is then handed to the chromecast device.
But this does not in any way hinder both the google mini as well as the chromecast device being rendered in the list of devices in apps like spotify.

I tried installing a firewall on my phone denying access to the google home mini's. It has no effect as the list is obtained from the google cloud services. I again used spotify here for testing.

Funny thing is this filtering of the list of chromecast devices could easily be implemented in each of the apps like spotify and such.
Although it would still be pretty useful to have it enabled/disabled globally for any apps by having the feature in the google home app.

We have no news to share about disabling the casting functionality of Chromecast and Google Nest speakers, but we're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take this as feedback.
