speaker only play on one of the nest mini in my speaker group

Since the lawsuit history with Sonos, is it supposed to work again the speaker groups? I have 2 Nest mini (2nd gen) and although I can put them in the same speaker group, only one plays music. I've asked around and the answers vary...

Hi namelessthing,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. Are you trying to play music via voice command or casting via Google Home app? You can delete and create a new speaker group, then play music via voice command or casting. Check the steps below for guidance.

Delete an existing group:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. Tap your speaker group.
  4. Tap Delete group and then Remove.

Important: If you delete a group that currently casts media, group playback will stop and all audio devices in the group will stop playing.

Create an audio group:

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. At the top left, tap Add and then Create speaker group.
  4. Tap each device you want to add to the group. A check Check will appear next to each device you select.
  5. Tap Next enter a name for your group Save.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

Hello, thank you for the answer. Unfortunately, I have already tried what you suggested. Without success. I even did a factory reset of both devices, and recreated the group afterwards. Mainly I start playback on my speaker group from the Spotify application. But even with the voice command it gives the same result. Only one of the two google nest mini plays.

Hi there,

Thanks for trying that. Sorry that you are still experiencing the issue. When you try to play music to individual Nest Mini, are they working? Are you still using the original power cord? Since you have two Nest Mini, let’s try to pair them for stereo sound and observe if two speakers will play using that feature. Check the steps below.

Step 1. Place speakers in the best position in your room

For the best sound quality, place the 2 speakers:

  • On top of a solid, level surface and away from the edge of the surface.
  • At the same height as each other.

Step 2. Set up both Google Nest Mini speakers

Set up both Google Nest Mini speakers in the Google Home app. Once they’re set up, they should appear in the app as separate devices.

Step 3. Pair the speakers

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest or Home speaker.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold the tile of the speaker you want to pair.
  4. At the top right corner, tap Settings Audio.
  5. Tap Stereo pair Next.
  6. Select 2 devices you’d like to pair Next.
  7. The lights on one of the speakers should start to flash white. Tap Left or Right to match the location of the speaker that blinks Next.
    • Note: Once set up, your Assistant should respond from the left speaker.
  8. Under “Where is your pair?,” choose a room for the stereo pair Next.
  9. Create a name for your stereo pair Next Done.

In the home tab of the Google Home app, your stereo pair should appear as a single device. You can tap on your stereo pair to control the pair.

Check this link for more information.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Juni

    YES

I just tried what you suggested and although creating a stereo pair is creating. It does not work. I get a message from the assitance that it can't connect to the 2nd device. So the music only works on one.

Hi namelessthing,

Thanks for the response. You can perform the factory data reset to put your Nest Mini back to default then setup as new devices. Once done, create a speaker group. Check the step below.

On the side of your device, switch the mic off. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

Check this link for more information.

Keep me in the loop.

Regards,

Juni

@Juni, just before you offered to make a stereo pair. I had just done a factory reset on both devices.

Hey namelessthing,

Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To eliminate network issues, let's go ahead and set up your devices on a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one will serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Nest Mini). Once done, try to create a group then check if your devices will have the same behavior.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi
