App "is not available in your country" Issues

tvieso
Community Member

So, despite creating a new payment profile in my current country and checking that my address is correct in every aspect of my Google account, I am unable to install a few apps through Chromecast or onto my Chromecast.

I'm living in the country in which these apps were made for, and my payments profile is set to this country -- yet it still doesn't give me the option to download them.

Any solutions for this? I don't understand why my Chromecast thinks I'm in a different country.

I purchased the Chromecast from a US store. The apps I’m wanting to download are German apps. I live in Germany though.

Hi again,

An app developer chooses the devices and regions that their app can be used with, not Google.

You can find this information from the Google Play store. I'm a UK user and not all apps that work on my phone or Chromebook are available for the Chromecast with Google TV.

As you haven't said what apps you are trying to use then please contact the app developer for more information about if their app is available for this device.

It is the Magenta TV and Magenta Sport apps from Telekom. I will ask them. Thanks.

Hi again,

I only speak English, sorry.

But with some Google translate help it looks like you can only cast this service from another device. It doesn't look like it is available for installing on a Chromecast with Google TV yet?

Please come back and share any response that you get 👍

I have the same issue. I am in the US, only US payment profiles, my country in Google Play is the United States, I did the tv.YouTube.com/verify (it says I’m in New York, correctly), the YouTube tv app works perfectly on Apple TV, but Chromecast won’t let me play any contents. All my addresses are set in the US (NJ). Any help appreciated otherwise this chromecast will have been money thrown out the windows really. # .

Hey there AmineO,

That's no good to hear. In this case, you may need to talk with Chromecast Support. Would you be able to fill out this form to have them reach out to you via email? Let me know if you fill out that form; I'd appreciate it!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran, thanks for following up. I haven't reached out to Telekom yet but when thinking about it -- it still seems like a regional thing (which would have to do with Chromecast settings, right?).

The app developer made the apps for Chromecast/Google. They exist in the App Store. Just when going to download, they are restricted because my Chromecast thinks I'm not in Germany for some reason.

I understand some apps may only work on some devices, like Cathal mentioned. But then wouldn't the error message be something akin to "not available for this device" rather than "not available in your country/region?"

Hey there tvieso,

It's possible that your Chromecast or Google Account believes you live in another country. In this case, I would double-check to see if the Chromecast is aware you're in Germany. First, log into the Play Store and make sure your location is set. I would also set your location in the Google Home app and ensure that your Chromecast with Google TV is also added to the Google Home app. If the problem persists, go ahead and clear out the cached app data on both the Play Store and the Google Home app. Finally, clear out the cached app data on the Chromecast.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any more questions.

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

I don't see any options to change location in the Play Store. Can you send me links on how to do that as well as clear my cache for the Google TV? All of the tutorials refer specifically to Android and the deprecated Play app.

I've already created a new payments profile for Germany, but my Play Store defaults to US settings every time I sign out and back in. Could there be an issue because I have subscription on the US payments profile as well as the Germany payments profile?

Hey there tvieso,

No problem at all! If you don't want to use the Google Play app, you can update your location using the Google Accounts website. To clear the cache for all apps on your Google TV device, go ahead and follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to your profile icon and then  select Settings and then System  and then Storage and then Internal shared storage and then Cached data.
  2. Select OK to clear cached data for all apps.

If that doesn't help, it could be an issue with your US subscriptions like you mentioned. Check that your German payment method is listed under the Payments and Subscriptions tab on the same Google Accounts website.

Jeran

Hi, so I performed the cached data reset on my Google TV and then gave it a restart. I also logged out of my Play account on desktop and logged back in. The issue was not resolved. Still seems to think I'm in the US.

Hey there tvieso,

Hmm, that's no good to hear. Do you happen to have your country set in the Google Home app? If this is the case, and the issue persists, we may need to contact Chromecast Support to investigate further.

I just have my home address (my actual German address) set up in the Google Home app. I don't see any other options regarding setting your country or location.

Hey there tvieso,

The only other places would be setting up the address on the Google Play app on a mobile phone, as well as the website that I linked earlier. Also, like you said earlier, it could be the subscriptions from the two countries that are affecting it, but I would hate for you to cancel any subscriptions if that is not the issue. If you would like, you can fill out this form to have Chromecast Support reach out to you via email, as they would have more tools to look into this. Just let me know if you decide to go that route.

Best regards,

Jeran
