Brand New Chromecast with Google TV - Unable to Cast from Xfinity

Brand new Chromecast with Google TV.  When trying to cast from both the Xfinity Stream app and from a PC browser, it doesn't work.  It connects, even puts up the splash screen of the show I'm trying to cast, but just get 3 dots and never starts playing.  Same behavior from both the Xfinity Stream app (Android) and from the PC browser (Chrome).  Anyone have any suggestions?

It's quite disappointing because my idea was to replace an Xfinity TV box with the Chromecast but if this doesn't work, there's no point!

Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear that you're having an issue casting from Xfinity Stream app to your Chromecast. Let's sort this out.

 

A few questions: Are you getting any messages when casting from this app? Is this only happening with the Xfinity Stream app or across all apps? Is the video playing problem-free on the device (phone or computer), when not casting?

 

Try these steps:

 

Try these steps:

  • Reboot the Chromecast, router, and casting device.
  • Play other videos and try other apps.
  • Clear the data and/or cache of the app that experiences the issue.
  • Delete and reinstall the Xfinity Stream app.
  • Disable and re-enable Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone.
  • Check for system updates on the mobile device and computer.
  • Make sure the Chrome browser is updated.
  • Try to cast from another mobile device.
  • Perform a factory reset on your Chromecast.

Thank you Jennifer.  Strangely, all the problem disappeared within 2 days without me doing anything and everything is working fine now.  I don't quite understand it but will take the good news.
