Can Chromecast 4K downscale 4K content to HD

Hi,

I'd like to know if a Chromecast with Google TV (4K) connected to a HD TV can do downscale from 4K to HD, that is, if it can receive and decode a 4K content, downscale to HD resolution and display in the HD TV.

Short answer: Yes

Long answer: All chromecast devices support the lower resolutions than their stated maximum.  The Chromecast device will take care of it and show the appropriate resolution based on your TV, what the source app can provide, and what your network can handle.

I believe it tells the source app what version to give it so there is not unnecessary processing in the Chromecast or excessive traffic on your network.
