Can’t control power from Google streamer remote

I have a TCL 55s434 TV. It can no longer keep up with streaming live sports gave without audio dropping so I upgraded to a Google TV Streamer. The streamer works great except for the fact that I cannot turn the TV off/on with the Streamers’s remote.

I have tried via CEC and IR. The volume controls work via CEC, but neither power or input toggle works. I have T-link and all the settings below it enabled on my TCL. I have awake from standby enabled. I have QuickStart enabled.

With IR, I can get it to work, but only if the remote is less then 4 inches from the TVs IR sensor. I unpaired the TCL remote from Bluetooth to force it to use IR, and it worked across the room just fine. I used my phones camera to make sure it was outputting IR, and when I covered the remotes sensor it wouldn’t turn off the TV so I know for sure it wasn’t utilizing Bluetooth in that test. So the streamers IR blaster is definitely the problem.

Is there anything else I can try to get power controls from the streamer remote? Or is it time to return it and try something else?

Hi @cteach48,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're experiencing some issues with your Google TV Streamer remote specifically that you can't turn your TV on or off. I appreciate you letting me know that you've already tried some troubleshooting steps!

I'd be happy to share some specific steps with you to help get your remote's power function working.

  • Adjusting Remote Button Configuration
    • First, let's try reconfiguring the buttons on your remote:
    • Go to All Settings.
    • Select Remotes & Accessories.
    • Choose Set up remote buttons.
    • Select the relevant device (your TV) to troubleshoot.
    • For example, select your TV's brand and then Set up buttons.
    • Next, select Reconfigure the controls for Volume, Power, or Input.
    • If your device isn't listed under Set up remote buttons, select Add device and proceed with the configuration.
  • Checking Power Settings
    • If the steps above don't work, let's check the power settings:
    • From the remote control setup screen, select Power.
    • Turn off your TV by pressing the power button on the remote, wait eight seconds, and then turn the TV back on.
    • Under the prompt, "Did the power button work?", select Yes or No, try again.

Please let me know how this goes!

Best regards,

Debora

Hi have have attempted all of these steps already. As stated in my original post, I can get it to work after setting up the volume and power buttons via IR, but only if the IR blaster on the remote is within about 4 inches from the TV.

The volume control is the only thing that works, and that is via CEC.
