Cannot connect to new Chromecast

Cannot connect to new Chromecast

I cannot connect to a new Chromecast via Google Home app to set it up, despite plugging it in to a HDMI port and powering it on.  I have tried all manner of troubleshooting but to no avail. 
 
I have four other Chromecast devices in the house and have never had any issue
 
Should I return it as defective?

Hi velomark,

 

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. If the TV displays that it’s ready for setup yet the Google Home App can’t detect your Chromecast 3rd Gen, try to reinstall the Google Home App. Also, check if the Chromecast device is broadcasting itself by checking it from your available Wi-Fi networks. If it’s still not showing up even on another smartphone, then I suggest you take it back to the store where you bought it.

 

Let us know if the steps I suggested made any difference.
