Chomecast Blackouts When Cold

David261

When the indoor temperature is warm (80 degrees F), no problem. When it is cold (65 degrees F) the Chromecast keeps repeatedly winking out until it warms up (I assume). When first turned on it might work for a few seconds, but then the picture goes black and the sound stops. In about a second the picture returns and the stream has progressed during the blackout (i.e. the stream was not paused or restarted). This “wink out” will repeat sometimes 20 times a minute until (I assume) the unit warms up and then the wink out may occur once or twice an hour. The unit has now progressed to the point where some of the wink outs loose the sound and I have to reset the unit to recover the sound. Any ideas?

Hi David261,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) keeps repeatedly winking out, maybe until it warms up according to your opinion. Thank you for letting us know the complete behavior that it is presenting, such as the description that the Chromecast might work for a few seconds when first turned on, but then the picture goes black and the sound stops, and the wink out will repeat sometimes 20 times a minute until, according to your perception, it warms up, and then the wink out may occur once or twice an hour. Don’t worry; it is my pleasure to assist you with this inconvenience.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Is the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) plugged correctly into the TV and power source?
  • Has the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) ever worked with your TV set?
  • When was the last time it was working?
  • What is the status of the LED light that you can see on the device?
  • How far is the Chromecast from the WiFi router?
  • Is your Chromecast device connected to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • What country do you use your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) in?
  • What TV brand do you primarily use with your device (e.g., Sony, LG, Samsung, TCL)?
  • What is the model number of your TV (e.g., Sony KDL40W600B, LG OLED65C7P)?
  • What is the resolution of the TV (e.g., 1080p, 4K)?
  • How many years have you been using this TV?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to your answer.

Best regards,

Virna
