Chromcast with Google TV 4K only searching youtube

Nili

Recently the search feature in Google TV changed functionality.

It previously searched and returned results from across all of the services I had loaded (e.g. Netflix, YouTube, Prime, Apple TV, Hulu etc.).

It now only returns search results from YouTube.

Others have posted about this problem and the solutions given were not successful for me (frankly it seems they didn't work for anyone but the thread was locked because conversation stopped).

Any help in returning to the old, useful, functionality?

Thank you,

Nili

Hi Nili,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that the search button is not working on your Chromecast with Google TV. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

For your concern, please try the below steps:

Talk to Google with your Chromecast or Google TV remote.

Note: When you use the Voice Remote, you don't need to say "Hey Google" before you talk to Google Assistant.

  1. On the remote, press and hold the Google Assistant button to open the microphone.
  2. Ask a question or say a command.

Allow Google Assistant to search your apps.

You can use voice commands to search your apps.

  1. At the top right of your TV, go to All settings.
  2. Select Privacy Google Assistant Searchable apps.
  3. Select the apps you want to search with your voice.

Note: If a voice command isn’t working when you search with Google Assistant, use the keyboard instead.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin

Thanks, but first, not all apps appear. I turned off YouTube, but voice command searches still yield only YouTube results.   Any other suggestions?

All. Here is the solution!  Check your WiFi connection and reconnect if necessary. If you cannot connect, reboot your internet. After doing so, the google assistant retrieved all results once again, not YouTube!!

don’t be fooled. I have an Ethernet connection so all streaming was working.

good luck and thank you.
