Hey guys, so about 2 months ago I ordered a Chromecast 4k. With it, I bought a Logitech k400 plus wireless keyboard (screw using the remote to type on that), a 45W Power port, a 500GB USB C flash drive, and an Anker 332 USB C hub. I received everything, set it up about 2 weeks later, and from that point everything worked great. A little over 2 weeks after that, I turned on my Chromecast one day and suddenly my keyboard wasn't working and most of my apps were missing. Turns out the Anker 332 wasn't registering input from the USB C port or either of the USB A ports. This was past the Amazon 30 days for the order, so I went through the manufacturer in order to invoke the warranty for the Anker 332. They were helpful and I received the replacement Anker 332 today.
I plugged it into the Chromecast and plugged the power supply into the Anker 332 without the keyboard receiver or flash drive initially. The Chromecast won't even boot to the main screen now. It keeps showing the G in the middle of the screen and then going black. The light on the Chromecast alternates between green when it appears to be loading up, and then back to yellow when the screen goes black again, and repeats the cycle.
My immediate first thought was "great it wasn't the USB C hub that was faulty, it was the Chromecast device itself." The puzzling thing is when I plug only the power source into the Chromecast, it boots up to the normal home screen. It is useless to me without the keyboard and extra storage for the apps that I need however. This setup worked for me for 2 weeks, and furthermore around the same time I set up a Chromecast 4k in my parents' living room using the exact same accessories and layout, and it is still working right now.
Any ideas what's going on or suggestions on what to do?
For reference, here are the exact parts that I am using with my Chromecast:

UPDATE: I switched to using a USB C to USB A cord to hook the new Anker 332 to the power supply. The Chromecast turns on now and boots up normally, but the replacement Anker dongle is not recognizing input from the keyboard or the flash drive still, so it is now identical to the original one. Still no idea what the issue is.

Still can't get this to work. I tried a factory reset on the Chromecast today, with only the power plugged into the Anker hub. When I plug in the USB C flash drive no notification comes up to format it, and it doesn't even show up in storage in system options. I have developer mode enabled and still the same thing. Also not registering input from the keyboard still.

Hi bkramer,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. Connecting external USB hubs for storage expansion or peripheral devices to a Chromecast with Google TV is a hit or miss. These kinds of setups aren’t intended for the general use of Chromecast with Google TV. There’s no guarantee that they will work. Some users managed to pull it through, but we don’t normally recommend it as it may affect how the Chromecast device works. Kindly check out this basic guide: Move files from and to your Chromecast with Google TV.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have questions or concerns with your Chromecast device.
Thanks,
Kimy
