Chromecast Audio regularly not reachable (after March 9, 2025 incident)

Hi,

I have six Chromecast Audios in my home. Recently, three of them have been regularly becoming unreachable. I have to unplug them for a few seconds to get them back online, and then they work fine for a while.

This is quite annoying as I have to do this 2–3 times per week. I'm confused why this is only happening to three of them when all six are running the same firmware.

Do you have any suggestions for a permanent fix? I’ve thought about buying replacements, but since they are only available on eBay now, i would not even be sure to not have the same issue in the end. Alternatively, are there any other devices compatible with Google Home groups that I could use instead?

Best regards and happy holidays

Samir

Hi bustadahol,

Thank you for reaching out to the community.

I understand that three of your six Chromecast Audio units have become regularly unreachable since early March, requiring frequent manual reboots to stay online. I can see how puzzling it is that only half of your units are affected despite sharing the same firmware. I’m ready to work with you to find a permanent fix so you can stop the cycle of unplugging them several times a week.

To get started, please provide a bit more information by answering the following questions:

  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a new Wi-Fi network, recent outages, or the addition of more Wi-Fi devices?
  • What is the status of the LED light on the affected Chromecast units when they go offline?
  • Are all your Chromecast units connected to the same Wi-Fi band (e.g., all on 2.4 GHz or all on 5 GHz)?
  • Besides your main router, are you using any additional access points or a mesh network?
  • How far from the router are the units that are becoming unreachable?
  • Are there any physical obstructions or electronics nearby that could cause interference, such as thick walls, microwaves, baby monitors, or Bluetooth devices?

Please reply with these details so we can work toward a solution for you.

Best regards,

Virna
