Chromecast Gen1 not connecting to WiFi,

Trying to connect Chromecast to wifi.  Reset Chromecast.  Device asks me to use Google Home App to setup.  However after adding the device, the App tells me that I need to activate Chromecast first.  Not sure on next step.  Help please.

Hi @nshah4u!

Thanks for reaching out to the community.I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast Gen1 is not connecting to WiFi. I also appreciate all the efforts you've been making to resolve this inconvenience. But do not worry; I am happy to help you fix this issue. To assist you better, I have some questions for you:

  • Is your network 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?
  • Were there any recent changes in your network setup?
  • How many devices actively use the internet at once?
  • Did you change your Internet Service Provider (ISP)?
  • Do you use a modem and router combo?
  • How often does this issue occur?

I'll be waiting for your response; any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,
Jeremy.

Thanks for responding:  Here are my responses to your questions:

- Both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are available (unique SSID names)

- No changes to network setup

- Around 10 devices are connected to WiFi the network

- No change to ISP

- The router and modem are in same hardware

- 1st time experiencing this issue

Hi @nshah4u!

Thanks for all the shared details. As everything in your system is the same. My recommendation will be to perform a factory reset on your Chromecast 1st gen by following the steps in the next article: Can't establish a Wi-Fi connection to Chromecast or Google TV Streamer

Please keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jeremy.
