Chromecast Pausing on the hour

matharris
Community Member

Does anyone else have an issue with their Chromecast w/GoogleTV 4K pausing every hour on the hour when watching anything?  It happens when watching YouTube, our TV streaming provider and others too.  We have two Chromecast 4K devicesvand both of them do it.

Can't seem to find a solution or another thread about this.

Thanks,

Mat

I don't have this while watching Youtube or now Premier League football for a few hours. Have you got the latest update? I disabled system updates as everyything currently works for me. Maybe this update broke it.

I've run into this issue as well. It's almost like it detected a non-existent "Home" button press.

Still getting this issue. Even had an update last week. Doesn’t matter what I’m watching now on it. It pauses on the hour no matter what.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the delay. You can reboot your Chromecast with Google TV (4K), router, and casting device. Clearing the data and/or cache of the app that experiences the issue can also help. Check out the steps below:

Android:

  1. On the phone or tablet, go to Settings and then Device and then Apps and then All.
  2. Scroll down and touch the app that has issues.
  3. Tap Clear data, then tap OK.
  4. Tap Clear cache.

iOS:

Note: iOS users need to uninstall and reinstall the app in order to clear cache and data.

  1. Hold down the app icon until all the icons shake.
  2. Click Remove App to delete it.
  3. Go to the App Store to reinstall the app.

Regards,

Juni

Hi Dan,

I’m still having this issue. Sometimes happens on the :30 minute mark too. It happens on every app I use. YouTube, Disney+, Prime, etc.
Thanks,

Mat

Hey matharris,

Have you done the steps above? If so, how was it? Also, try the troubleshooting steps found on the link below and tell us how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan. Yes I did perform all the steps and referred to the link you attached.
Even did a factory reset on them but still the same issue. I’ve noticed now that the behaviour is like someone hitting the back button or the home button on the remote. Was watching YouTube and the HUD menu popped up like someone hit the back button and it was right on the hour.   My wifi is very stable as no other devices are having issues.

Hi matharris,

Thanks for your reply. Try this approach. Remove the batteries from the remote for about 2 hours just to observe if it persists. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hello, sorry was away.
The issue still exists.  I have pulled the batteries on both Chromecast remotes. Now it seems like the back button is being pressed once and awhile cause the HUD overlay randomly appears
Thanks

I finally figured out what the issue is and it's not the Chromecast.  It was my router.   I guess the pausing or unusual behaviour of the Chromecast was just a warning to bigger issues.

I have replaced my home wifi and now we have no issues with the Chromecast.  There is no pausing or random HUD pop-ups.

I had a Asus RT-AX88U and starting having issues with other devices in the house.  Decided to upgrade to a UniFi system and now no issues for anything.

Thanks for helping out.
