Chromecast Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues

nnmwadmin

Hello All,

Recently, we rotated the SSIDs and passwords in our organization. Soon after, we reset the Chromecast devices and connected them to the new SSID. However, two of these devices are intermittently disconnecting from Wi-Fi and then reconnecting. This is quite disruptive, as they sometimes report they “can’t connect to Wi-Fi,” but then reconnect after some time. Before the SSID and password rotation, there were no such issues.

The new SSIDs were created with the same security modes, wireless modes, channel width, TX power, etc. We have tested both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. The router in use is a TP-Link EAP245.

Other users on Wi-Fi are not experiencing any issues; it is only these two Chromecast devices.

Device information:

System firmware: 281627

Cast firmware: 1.56.281627

So far, we have rebooted the router and reset the devices a second time and reconnected them, but the issue still recurs intermittently.

We would appreciate any insights or suggestions on resolving this issue.

Hello @nnmwadmin,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that you are experiencing intermittent connectivity issues with your Chromecast devices after you rotated your SSID and password network. And I want to thank you for the troubleshooting that you already tried. I can help you figure out what is causing these issues.

To help me get a better understanding of your setup and the problem, could you please provide a little more information?

Additionally, it's possible that some router settings may be preventing a stable connection. Could you please check to see if any of the following settings are enabled on your router or wireless network?

  • AP Isolation, also known as guest mode or client mode. If this setting is enabled, it can prevent communication between the Chromecast and the mobile device you are using to cast.
  • Please also be sure that the following settings are enabled on your router: Multicast, UPnP, and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP).
  • If your router uses Domain Name System (DNS) software, please check that the public Google DNS IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are enabled.

If you need help with your router settings, I recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the router manufacturer, as they can provide specific guidance for your hardware.

Thank you for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Kevin
