Chromecast audio keeps going silent after a few seconds

My google chromecast plays only for a few seconds, then goes silent while spotify on my phone indicates the song is still playing. I disconnect from chromecast and spotify plays just fine on my phone. I reconnect to chromecast and it will immediately switch to another song in the middle of the song that is playing, without my doing anything. Chromecast will then play that new song for a few seconds and then go silent. This procedure will repeat itself over and over again. Why does this happen?

To help me investigate this further, please provide the following information:

  • How close is your smartphone from your Chromecast when you are casting?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • What is the status of the LED light on your Chromecast?
  • What is the make and model of your smartphone?
  • Is your smartphone's operating system up to date?
  • Is your smartphone's power saving mode turned on?
  • What device are you connecting to your Chromecast? (Please specify the make and model of the AVR, speaker, or soundbar).
  • Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, you can find helpful instructions in this Google Nest Help Center article: Update the Google Home app.
  • Is the Spotify app updated?
  • Have you experienced this issue only when streaming music playlists, or with other Spotify content (podcasts, radio, etc.) as well?
  • Are you having the same issue with other apps? 
  • Which Wi-Fi frequency band are you using to connect your Chromecast and your smartphone (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?
