Chromecast built-in on Android TV won't optimize video, only mirroring

Is there any update to this long-running issue? It has been discussed on reddit 20 months ago and also here on this forum last year but it doesn't seem there is any fix or even acknowledgement of bug that Google may fix.

Jeran replied with this comment which seemed someone from Google was looking into it but there was no update about fixing/working the issue since.

This problem is not simply Chromecast built-in won't optimize full-screen video (media remote routing if I recall correctly) but because it is doing mirroring. When I play and cast a video from a Chrome tab and make it full size, the computer is both playing the video on my computer and sending the pixels to the Chromecast built-in on my TV, which make my laptop CPU utilization goes up to 100%. When I minimize the browser window, the audio continues to play but the screen is frozen on the TV, probably because the Chrome browser stops rendering the video and so there is nothing to send to Chromecast built-in.

When I repeat the same steps but cast the video to a Chromecast Dongle (either 1st and 2nd Gen) the computer is really routing the video to play on the Chromecast device, and the laptop is not playing the video at all.

Is this feature no supported at all in Chromecast built-in? I have already updated to the most recent version available on my Android TV device and the most up-to-date Chrome browser.
