Chromecast device detects every Wifi network except the ones I have

I've been using Chromecast for about a year and a half now and it was working fine. We installed a second Wi-Fi connection a few weeks ago. Everything was working ok till one day it started flashing the message that Internet was disconnected.

For some reason, Chromecast has now stopped detecting both the connections we have installed, but detects the neighbor's networks without issue. The networks we have do not show up in the list of available networks.

Initially tried to get the Wi-Fi to connect by manually setting up, but after many cycles of entering the network name, security settings and passwords, Chromecast kept returning the message that it could not connect to the network.

Restarted the Wi-Fi router, the television, and Chromecast only to come back to the issue that the networks we have are not being picked up by Chromecast.

With a heavy heart, did a factory reset of Chromecast hoping that it would solve the problem. Alas it is still not detecting our networks but happily displays the networks of the neighbors. Manual setup of network is not working either.

At this moment, the Chromecast device is useless. Given that the device is made of materials only slightly stronger than the packaging it came in, I'm not sure percussive maintenance would help. Does anyone have any idea of what the issue could be and how to resolve it?

Ok so I did a search on this issue and I did find someone else who experienced this same problem and their fix was to turn the wifi to channel 1 so I would recommend that you try that and see if that fixes it.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the help, @ChrissyG.

@FGQ, have you had the chance to try ChrissyG’s suggestion? Also, let’s try these steps:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Forget and reconnect to the WiFi on your phone.
  • Move Chromecast with Google TV 4K within 20 feet or as close as possible to the mobile device used for setup, and equally close to the Wi-Fi router. Close proximity allows for the best Wi-Fi connection possible.
  • Open the Google Home app > Settings > Privacy > Remove saved WiFi networks and home address > Removed save WiFi networks.
  • Try to do the set up again. If the issue persists, use a different set up device.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex
