Chromecast google tv wifi popup

I have a Chromecast google tv 4k, I connected it to the internet, installed all needed apps then disconnected it from the internet. I am using it locally to watch movies using jellyfish. The problem is I keep getting "no internet connection" pop-up and I would like to make it stop.

Please don't reply with "you cannot use Chromecast without internet, not even locally" because I can and I am.

Hi Gizmmo,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. But based on your description, it seems that the Chromecast device is doing what it was intended to do. To pop up that message “no internet connection” when it doesn’t detect any internet connection. Like you mentioned, you disconnected it from the internet, which is why that message pops up. The device was invented to utilize most of its marketed Google functions (Google Assistant, ads depending on the partner app and subscription, YouTube, Play Store, etc.), which require an internet connection, not to mention partner apps (Netflix, Disney+, etc.) that won’t work without the internet.

There are tech vloggers and techy individuals who managed to explore different usages for Chromecast with Google TV, and kudos to these people. But these kinds of setups aren’t intended for the general use of Chromecast with Google TV. Google can’t suddenly change something on its device just because certain techy individuals discovered (exploited) unintended usage. There are possible risks that may cause issues with the device in the long run. And if a system update happens to stop these explored usages outside the intended functions, Google is not obliged to restore them. If you can use it without the internet, kudos to you, sir/ma’am. But the pop-up message will keep happening as long as it’s not connected to the internet.

I hope this sheds light on the situation. Let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi. I did not modify the device in any way, I didn't install 3rd party software. I understand it was made to work with an internet connection but it also works without one.

As I understand:

- there is no way to stop the pop-up unless Google codes it

- I should root the device if I want more functionality from it, I.e. stop the pop-up myself. Not a bad suggestion.

Thanks!
