About a week ago, my Chromecast Ultra stopped being available for casting. I looked and noticed it had upgraded the firmware to 1.56.264660. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked fine. It is still available in the Home app - I can reboot it from the app and have even factory reset the device. But I can't cast - It shows up with the message "Available for specific video sites." It doesn't even work with YouTube or Google TV. I've have also noted the ambient mode no longer works correctly.
I have noticed it is also generating an insane amount of traffic - it will make around 10,000 DNS lookups in just a few minutes to various Google related sites - time.google.com etc.
I have children and do use DNS filtering to keep them safe online, so devices cannot go around my DNS service. The device is getting answers to all the DNS queries from the DNS service. None of the request are being blocked - so that should allow them to work. However, Google DNS servers are not available to any device within my network so they are forced to use the DNS service that filter's adult content and other abusive material.
Anyone else having issues with the Chromecast since the latest firmware?

Very slow for connecting Spotify, but i managed to connect to wifi

Hi guys, should I believe that Google sabotage its own devices? I have rather different issues with my Chromecast ultra. After update to 1.56.281627 my device acts like a simple cast device, I mean when I play a video from my Android phone to Chromecast it doesn't filter the adds anymore. However when I say a voice command to my nest for playing something from YouTube to Chromecast works fine without adds. But it is not un option because I am living in a country with a language without Google commands voice support. So is there any possibility to downgrade the firmware or something?

Hi everyone.
for me the issue is different. Same version as a lot of you 1.56.275994 and I can connect to 5hz and cast YouTube and Netflix but I can’t cast Amazon prime video. Any idea why?

My chromecast ultra sits on 1.56.281627 and has audio streaming issues even on my wired cat6 network. How to downgrade? Still no solution to this?

My Chrome casting icon disappeared after an update. Different problem from yours but someone else may have had the same issue.
I chanced to click on the 3 vertical dots next to my mini picture top far right and had to look down the popup list to find 'Cast' near the bottom. Clicking on that located my devices.
It was much simpler when there used to be a casting icon.

My Chromecast is pixelated and glitching so bad. I have check all connections and nothing seems to be helping!
