Chromecast or YouTube TV Thinks I’m Not in US

Jhealy21

I recently purchased YouTube TV and two Chromecasts to get rid of my Cox cable. We had 2 Apple TVs on which YouTube TV immediately worked(s) perfectly. I used the Chromecasts on our other TVs but both Chromecasts will not access YoutubeTV (or Peacock and certain other apps). I live in Kansas, but I have lived in both South America and more recently England for 5 years. I’ve tried messing with the locations settings on the Chromecasts but nothing changes. How do I solved this? I’ve accessed every google related account I can find to try and remove any old international addresses or information but it’s still not adjusting and only seems to impact the Chromecasts (which makes them pretty useless).

Hi Jhealy21,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I am sorry for the issue you are experiencing. It's frustrating when your Chromecast or YouTube TV thinks you're in the wrong location. But no need to worry, help is here.

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to fix this issue and a few potential causes:

Potential Causes:

  • Incorrect Location Settings: Your device might have incorrect location settings, however I understand that you have tried changing these settings already.
  • VPN or Proxy Interference: A VPN or proxy service might be masking your location.
  • Network Issues: Network problems or router configurations could be affecting location detection.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Check Device Location Settings:
    • Chromecast: Access Chromecast settings and ensure the location is correct.
    • YouTube TV App: Check the app settings for any location-related options.
    • Device Settings: Verify location settings on your phone or tablet (if used for casting).
  2. Disable VPN or Proxy: Temporarily disable any VPN or proxy services to see if they're interfering.
  3. Restart Devices: I understand that you have tried rebooting your Chromecast device, you can also try restarting the router.
  4. Clear App Cache and Data: Clear the cache and data for the YouTube TV app on your device.
  5. Update Apps and Software: Ensure your Chromecast, YouTube TV app, and device software are up-to-date.

Additional Tips:

  • Google Account Location: I understand that you have ensured your Google account has the correct location information.
  • Google Play country: Please keep in mind to check these settings as well because it directly impacts the app availability and content by country.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Mario
