Chromecast stopped working suddenly, now cant reconnect it

I have a chromecast with google tv (HD) device. It's less than 2 years old. Has been working great but out of the blue stopped working about 10 days ago. The google home app was saying it was off-line, though it was powered on. Could not get it to come online so I selected 'forget this device' in hope to connect it from scratch. Now the app will not recognise the device at all. When I select 'add new device' it cannot find the chromecast at all. I have restarted and updated the google home app, tried searching for it in my WiFi settings but it doesn't show up, tried rebooting the chromecast device directly. Tried replacing remote batteries, restarting tv and phone. Chromecast support has been contacted but so far unable to troubleshoot the problem.

How on earth do I get this thing going again???????

Hi. I encountered a similar issue with a new Chromecast gen 2 device. It wouldn't accept the WiFi password during setup. When I followed a link from the Chromecast.com/setup page, I got a message that Google is aware of the issue, I should wait for a fix. No information on how long it would take. I think I have wasted money buying the device.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out.

@OldMessage, I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties adding your Chromecast with Google TV to the app. I understand it can be frustrating when your device isn't working as expected, especially after troubleshooting. Don't worry, help is here. To better assist you, I have some questions:

  • What's the LED light status (solid or flashing white)?
  • What's the distance between the router and your Chromecast?
  • What messages does the TV display? Does it display Set me up?
  • How long did you press the button on the back of the Chromecast to reset it?
  • If you've already contacted our support team, please share your case ID.

@Ade-3, please make sure you’re on Google Home app version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen). Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app. If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please let me know, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Your robot answer isn't appreciated, nor helpful.   Chromecast is broken everywhere on new and old devices.  My nest display is cut off from Google home and can't cast, my new streamer can't cast nor be seen by Google home, and my original Google tv is in the same shape,  though Google home sees it, just not useful...

The running advice is DON'T RESET, apparently this will make a future connection/update difficult..  if you did reset, manually applying an older date in the settings will trick the device and should allow setup, but not necessarily getting cast back until Google starts actually fixing this bug
