Chromecast unable to connect to wifi

Hi,
I have had my Chromecast for about 1 year now, and suddenly it stopped working. Because of this I factory reset it, and tried to connect again. This appears to work, until after I have entered the wifi password, and get the message:

"Chromecast configured, but not registered".

I am certain that the Chromecast and my phone are both trying to connect to the same wifi, so I am stumped as to what the issue is.

The disconnect happened around the time a wifi booster was connected to the wifi, but even with this turned off, I am unable to set up the Chromecast. Thus, I am not sure if this is relevant.

Grateful for any help other than "factory reset Chromecast".

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Chromecast. Let's sort this out.

 

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? What's the LED status on your Chromecast? What's the make and model of the phone you're using for setup? Are there any changes in your Wi-Fi network?

 

Try these steps:

 

  1. Reboot your Chromecast, Wi-Fi router, and mobile phone.
  2. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  3. Use a different phone.
  4. Manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: go to the phone settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.
