Chromecast with Google TV wifi issues with Nest Wifi

We've been experiencing significant wifi connectivity issues with our Chromecast devices.  I have 2 Chromecast with Google TV (HD) devices.  I'm experiencing the same issue on both.

We have FIVE Nest Wifi (2nd Gen) devices in our mesh network (4 points, 1 router). The router is approx 15 feet from our Chromecast with Google TV.

Our Chromecast connects to wifi, but we are not able to stream anything. I installed a speed check application.  I compared the speedcheck on Chromecast to my Phone. On average, my phone will get ~80 mbps while my chromecast gets ~20 mbps.  Even at 20mbps, many apps wont stream.

I have factory reset all of my chromecasts and nest wifi devices several times.  i've enabled and disabled IPv6. Nothing seems to work. I've read blogs that Chromecast performs better on a 2.4ghz band, but Nest Wifi does not allow me to do this.

Has anyone experienced this before? It's extremely frustrating.

I have the same issue. Lots of issues with connection. The old ones used to work perfectly but these new models are a huge problems for schools. Any insight how to solve this would be great

Hi Folks,

Thanks for posting in the community!

So sorry to hear you both are experiencing the same situation with the Chromecast devices. This is a common scenario when the WiFi connection is poor on the devices. The Google Mesh environment is designed to provide you with the best possible connection. While Google Mesh aims to offer a strong connection, Chromecasts may jump between Mesh points seeking the strongest signal, disrupting playback.

Here are some steps that might help:

  • Try moving your Nest WiFi points closer to your Chromecast devices for a stronger direct connection.
Forget and then reconnect your mobile device to the Wi-Fi network, manually entering the password to ensure a secure connection.
Try connecting a different mobile device to the Chromecast.

Hopefully, these steps will help improve your Chromecast connection. Feel free to share any additional details or ask further questions if needed!

Best regards,
Nery.

Hi Nery - Thanks for your reply. I've tried your first 2 recommendations several times over with only temporary success. For example, Forgetting and reconnecting to my wifi network will result in a good connection for that session. But the next day, its back to square one.

w/r/t proximity of my chromecast to my wifi point, it's ~15 feet apart with no obstructions (direct line of sight). i'd have to believe that distance is perfectly sufficient. Not to mention, chromecast says the wifi connection strength is "excellent".

Regarding your reco to connect a different mobile device, are you suggesting i use my phone's hotspot?  Is that a temporary solution? What would that do to solve the long term problem?

I'm surprised that 2 google products (nest wifi and chromecast) are this incompatible.

How can feature enhancement request be made to the Nest Wifi team? I think having an option to connect devices with a 2.4ghz band would be beneficial.

Thank you.
