Chromecast with GoogleTV regional apps

OJ1
Community Member

I've relocated from Canada to the UK and brought my Chromecast with Google TV devices with me.  I've adjusted my home address/billing info and set the device as being in the UK.  However I cannot add regional apps (ie Rakuten TV or BBC iPlayer) as they are not available in my region.  Is there any hope in getting these apps loaded or are the devices hard set for the region they were initially purchased in and I'm stuck having to cast?

  1. Follow these steps to change your Google Play country to the UK.
  2. Go to your language settings using the Google account you will use to setup the Chromecast and change the language to English (UK).
  3. Open your phone or tablet's settings app and change the region/language to English (UK). Remove any other languages. You can add these back after setting up your Chromecast.
  4. Uninstall the Google Home app from your phone or tablet.
  5. Factory reset your Chromecast.
  6. Install the Google Home app again, and retry setup. It should now let you install UK apps.

If it doesn't work immediately, it may take a day or so after changing your country in Google Play.
