Hi @mdizon05

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Chromecast.  Try rebooting the Chromecast, router and your iOS device. See if that helps. If not, try a full factory reset to the Chromecast.

Check out this helpful troubleshooting page as well: https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/10109908?hl=en

I’m having a similar problem. I have 2 chromecast (1 in the bedroom and 1 in the lounge) and a week or two ago they just stopped working. I’ve tried all the suggestions multiple times and it just won’t work.

The Google home app can see the devices but says the following

Disconnected device
Connect to your Wi-Fi to cast
Check that Disconnected device is online and your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Additionally, make sure local network access is enabled in your phone or tablet's privacy settings.

I’ve done all of these things multiple times and it’s just not working. I don’t know why it says it’s not connected to the local network (which I’ve checked in local network that it has permission) as it’s showing photos from Google on my tv! It’s like my iPhone and chromecast just won’t communicate any more. I e also tried to connect using the Google home app on my Samsung tablet and it’s doing the same thing! It’s frustrating as it’s been working fine for 6 months since I bought them and now I can’t cast!

Hi folks,

Thank you for helping out, @JillG.

@mdizon05, have you tried the suggested steps above?

@Serinayde, I’m sorry for the trouble — let’s check. Are there any changes made to the network? Are you using a dual band router (2.4GHz, 5GHz)? If so, which band is your Chromecast connected to?

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,
Kimy

It took a lot of searching but it appears it does. I have no idea how what connects to which or how to identify what is connected on what band.  I’m using a Sagemcom fast 5866T.

Edit:

I’ve just turned my modem off and on again and checked the modem info and one chromecast is definately showing connected on the 2.4Ghz range, so I’m guessing both are but one isn’t showing as a chromecast.

Hi Serinayde,

Thank you for the details. Based on the screenshot you sent, the Chromecast device is connected to Wi-Fi, which shows the Ambient mode. Your Chromecast is on 2.4 GHz and since the Google Home app is not detecting it, your phone may need to be on the same band.

Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:

  • From your phone’s settings, toggle Wi-Fi off and on.
  • Switch off cellular data.
  • Forget all networks and reconnect to your 2.4 GHz band.
  • Reboot your phone, Chromecast, and Wi-Fi router.

Regards,

Kimy

Hi. Thanks Muddi and Kimmy for the reply. It’s still not working. I don’t know how to force connections to the 2.5gh band. For some reason even though I couldn’t set either chromecast up in Google home, some apps could still find and cast to the devices, but after trying the advice given here, it won’t even do that.

Hi  Serinayde,

To confirm, have you tried to reset your device? If not, you can follow the steps on this link. Also, could you tell us when and where you purchased your devices?

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi. Yes I’ve reset the chromecast devices. I just don’t know how to force my phone to connect to the other band so they are on the same.

I bought both devices at OfficeWorks in Adelaide, South Australia, the 1st one about 7 months ago and the 2nd about a month later. I’ve had a problem for at least 2 or 3 months now. Prior to that, they were both working fine.

Hey Serinayde,

Thanks for confirming. The only way to force a device to connect to a specific band is to change the username and password for your network bands on the router. I suggest that you contact your network provider for help so they can guide you step by steps on how to do it.

Hi Serinayde,

Checking in — have you had the chance to change the settings on your router?

Hi. I still have t been able to connect but its clearly not the chromecast that is the issue. I will contact my internet provider about connecting of different bands. Thank you to everyone that has offered help!

I am having a similar problem. When I cast my screen from my pixel 6a the phone says the device is casting but the phone screen does not display on the TV. When I then check Google Home, I get the Disconnected Device message, but the pull down settings menu on the phone says it's connected. If I cycle the wifi off and on the Chromecast works fine until it doesn't. I toggled the wifi and used it last night, but this morning it didn't work. The phone indicated it was connected but it wasn't. I contacted my ISP. Both the phone and Chromecast are on 5g and the router firmware is up to date. I previously did a factory reset on the Chromecast, rebooted the modem and router, removed and reinstalled the Chromecast, un-installed a reinstalled Google Home on my phone. I still have to periodically toggle the wifi to either cast the screen or use the cast icon in apps like YouTube and Netflix. It seems to get disconnected a few hours after I stop casting. Any suggestions?
